This simple technique has many benefits. I incorporate this into my treatments and use it myself to:

✨Stimulate a portion of the vagus nerve shifting us out of fight or flight and into rest and digest

✨Decompress the skull and its sutures as the ears are anchored to the temporal bones via fascia.

✨Release restrictions in the cranial fascia and dural membrane that support our brain. Clearing brain fog and so much more.

✨Soften jaw clenching and alleviate neck tension.

This technique is meant to be gentle and gives subtle but noticeable changes to the head, jaw and nervous system. 🫶Give it a try and let me know what you notice!

Mary and I got to spend time today practicing techniques that we are known for here at Lakeside Massage & Bodywork. ✨ We use various assessment tools, both on and off the table to locate fascial restrictions and use gentle but effective techniques to release them.

👉Releasing fascial restrictions is important to allow excess or unorganized energy to flow and move out, providing pain relief and allowing for more balanced movement patterns. When the body is balanced and moving freely, it can do exactly what it's made to do, heal itself.

🙌 Today we found and released a fascial restriction in this client's hip. She started to notice warmth in the area which then became so hot it radiated down her thigh. This is one sign of fascial release and is possible for you.

You may be curious what a myofascial release session will be like. The intake process of this modality is a bit more involved.

The client wears a bathing suit or loose shorts and a sports bra. The therapist will start by visually assessing the client's body in standing from the front, side, and back, looking for fascial restrictions and imbalances. The therapist will then check the bony landmarks of the hips and do a couple of tests like a PT might do. This gives the therapist more information on where to treat.

MFR is done without oil and there are no sheets or blankets covering your body during this type of treatment. This is so that the therapist can scan the body for vasodilation during treatment. Vasodilation is a big word for redness of the skin.

When people think of myofascial release, they think painful and deep, but they're often imagining the old style of MFR. Fascial tissue needs sustained gentle, but firm pressure to release restrictions allowing tissue to begin to heal. This should feel like firm but comfortable pressure. This sustained pressure is where long lasting change will happen.

The goal of this type of treatment is long term pain relief from chronic pain.

✨ My practice is moving✨

I have so much to be grateful for; for my family, my friends and clients that have become friends. I'm grateful for the new connections I've made this year and the constant healing that happens when I get bodywork. Both have given me the opportunity to transition into this new space, a new mindset, and to let go of the old. Moving my practice is so much more than just a new location, it's a fresh start. Change can be so good if you embrace it.

Starting October 1st, 2024 my new address is
28 Howard St

Come visit me in the south end! Where it all started for me!

Is it already heated table and hot towel season? No, but it feels like it today! I'm enjoying the cooler weather and my clients are too as they slip into the warm table and get a surprise hot neck roll today.

What's your favorite added element during a massage aside from the many benefits of human touch?
