🦵🏾 YOUR KNEE HURTS? SO WE SHOULD ONLY WORK ON THE KNEE, RIGHT?
Not necessarily. 👀
Several of you mentioned knee pain during our body check-in, so let’s talk about it.
Your knee doesn’t work by itself. It sits between the hip and the ankle, and movement at either one can influence how forces travel through the knee.
That’s why when someone tells me, “My knee hurts,” I’m interested in more than just the painful spot.
I may look at things like:
🟣 Hip mobility
🟢 Ankle mobility
🟣 How you stand and walk
🟢 Muscle tension and strength around the leg
🟣 How the knee tracks during movement
🟢 What activities make the symptoms better or worse
This doesn’t mean every knee problem comes from the hip or ankle. Knee pain has many possible causes, and some need medical evaluation.
But it DOES mean that rubbing the spot that hurts isn’t always enough.
💜 This is one of the things I love about GMTC looking at the body as a whole instead of chasing one symptom.
Now I want to hear from my KNEE CREW 😂👇🏾
When do your knees bother you most?
Going UP stairs? ⬆️
Coming DOWN stairs? ⬇️
Getting out of a chair? 🪑
Walking? 🚶🏾♀️
After sitting for a while?
Or ALL THE TIME? 😩
Drop yours below. 👇🏾 I already know y’all are going to give me our next lesson. 😂💜

🌙💜 SUNDAY NIGHT REMINDER: REST IS PART OF WELLNESS TOO.
We make time for everybody else.
We push through being tired.
We tell ourselves, “I’ll rest when I get everything done.”
But when is everything ever really DONE? 😩
Sometimes caring for your body isn’t another workout, another supplement, another appointment, or another thing to add to your list.
Sometimes your body simply needs REST.
Rest can look like going to bed earlier. Turning the phone off. Sitting in silence. Taking a slow walk. Saying “no” without feeling guilty. Or giving yourself permission to do absolutely nothing for a little while.
💜 You don’t have to earn rest by completely exhausting yourself first.
Your body needs recovery too.
So before Monday starts asking things of you again…give yourself permission to slow down tonight. 🌿
What does REST look like for you? 👇🏾

I ASKED WHERE YOUR BODY WAS TALKING TO YOU AND Y’ALL ANSWERED!
I read EVERY response from our body check-in, and one thing was clear:
A LOT of y’all are carrying tension in your NECK & SHOULDERS. 😩
So let’s talk about it.
Neck and shoulder pain isn’t always just about having “tight muscles.”
Think about your day:
📱 Looking down at your phone
💻 Sitting at a computer
🚗 Driving
😩 Stress & tension
🛏️ Sleeping positions
👜 Carrying bags on one side
🏋🏾 Repetitive movements
Over time, your body can begin adapting to the positions and demands you repeatedly place on it.
And here’s where I want you to pay attention: 👀
The place that hurts is not always the only place that needs attention.
If someone comes to me complaining about their neck and shoulders, I’m also paying attention to things like how the shoulders move, the upper back, posture, range of motion and movement patterns.
That’s one of the differences between simply chasing symptoms and trying to understand what may be contributing to them.
💜 And NO the answer isn’t always “you just need a massage.” 😂
Sometimes your body is telling us something about the way you’re moving, recovering, working or even how much tension you’re carrying.
NEXT UP: Y’all had a LOT to say about those knees 😩😂, and we’re going there too!
But before we do…
👇🏾 Neck & shoulder crew: when is yours WORST when you wake up, while working, driving, or at the end of the day?

🌙💜 QUICK THURSDAY NIGHT CHECK-IN💚
Before you go to bed tonight, take a second and pay attention to your body.
Where are you holding tension RIGHT NOW? 👀
Is it your…
🟣 Neck & shoulders
🟢 Lower back
🟣 Hips
🟢 Knees
🟣 Feet
🟢 Somewhere else?
Sometimes we become so accustomed to tightness and discomfort that we don’t realize how much we’re carrying until we intentionally check in with our bodies.
So tonight, I’m curious, what part of YOUR body has been talking to you lately? 👀
Drop it in the comments. 👇🏾 I may just make your problem area the topic of our next post. 🌿💜

🌿💧 ESSENTIAL OIL SPOTLIGHT: FRANKINCENSE & PAIN
You asked for essential oils for pain relief & inflammation, so let’s actually get into the WHY.
Today we’re talking about Frankincense (Boswellia carterii).
Frankincense essential oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia tree. One of the things that makes this oil interesting is its natural chemistry.
🧪 WHAT’S INSIDE THE OIL?
What makes it especially interesting is its chemistry. Frankincense essential oil contains a high proportion of monoterpenes, including α-pinene, along with limonene and other aromatic constituents.
These constituents are part of why researchers and aromatherapy professionals continue to explore frankincense for its potential analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity. One of its major constituents is α-pinene at approximately 45%, along with limonene (~14%) and other naturally occurring aromatic compounds.
Why does that matter?
Because essential oils aren’t just pleasant fragrances. Their chemical composition helps aromatherapists understand an oil’s properties, how it may be used, and how it should be incorporated safely.
🦴 NOW LET’S TALK PAIN & INFLAMMATION.
In aromatherapy, frankincense is used as part of supportive care for things such as:
• Joint and muscle discomfort
• Sore or overworked muscles
• Joint stiffness
• Comfort during massage
• Relaxation when pain is accompanied by tension
My training also discusses frankincense in connection with inflammatory conditions and analgesic properties.
But here’s an important distinction:
🌿 Frankincense essential oil is NOT the same thing as a Boswellia herbal supplement.
They come from the same plant source, but the extraction method changes what compounds end up in the final product. So we shouldn’t assume research on an oral Boswellia extract automatically applies to frankincense essential oil.
That’s the part of aromatherapy I find fascinating, the chemistry matters.
And when I combine that knowledge with Manual Therapy, I’m not simply asking, “What oil is good for pain?”
I’m asking:
👉🏾 What type of discomfort are we dealing with?
👉🏾 What’s contributing to it?
👉🏾 Which oil makes sense for that person?
👉🏾 What’s the safest method of application?
👉🏾 And how can aromatherapy complement NOT replace the rest of their care?
💜 NEXT: We’ll talk about how frankincense can be used topically for muscle and joint comfort and why dilution matters.

🌿 LET’S TALK HERBS & ESSENTIAL OILS
One thing I’m becoming even more passionate about is learning how plants can be incorporated into a whole person approach to wellness.
As a Manual Therapist and now continuing my education in Aromatherapy. I want to start sharing more of what I’m learning with you. 💜🌿
We’re going to talk about:
🌱 Herbs and their traditional uses
💧 Essential oils and aromatherapy
🦴 Joint and muscle comfort
🔥 Supporting a healthy inflammatory response
😴 Relaxation, stress and sleep
💪 Mobility and recovery
🌿 And how natural approaches may complement but not replace appropriate medical care.
My goal isn’t just to tell you what herb or essential oil people use.
I want you to understand WHY it’s used, what the research says, how it may affect the body, and when it may NOT be appropriate.
Because natural doesn’t automatically mean safe for everyone.
This is going to be a learning journey for me too, and I’m excited to bring you along. 🌿💜

You don’t have to be flexible to start stretching. You stretch to become more flexible. 💜
One thing I encourage my clients to do outside of their sessions is MOVE.
Consistent stretching can help maintain mobility, reduce muscle tension and stiffness, and make everyday movement feel a little easier.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. This client is using something most of us already have at home a chair to safely support her stretch.
💡 Start where you are. Work within your comfortable range and stay consistent!
At Georgia Manual Therapy Clinic, our goal isn’t just to help you feel better during your appointment. We want to give you tools that help you move better between appointments too.

💜 You only get one body. Take care of it.
