It’s Massage Monday!! I often say “massage helps” but how? How can massage therapy help, and when or why should you get a massage?
Last night I was asked, how does someone know they should come see you versus going to a doctor.
The honest answer is often times people come to massage therapy as a “last resort” they are desperate for relief from pain, and have tried all the typical methods…. Doctors, pain medicines and physical therapy. There is value in all of that, but oftentimes a more natural approach can get your body moving on the right direction. Massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition, exercise are all fantastic ways to bring your body back to a pain free place.
There isn’t generally a one size fits all approach to helping your body to heal. it knows what to do, we just need to give it a nudge in the right direction!

Some insight from my friend on Wellness Wednesday!
Healing shows up in so many places.
Sometimes it looks like going for a walk and watching two bunnies chase each other and feeling something soften in your chest that you didn't even know was tight.
Sometimes it looks like going to the gym and punching the hell out of a punching bag until something releases.
Sometimes it's going into the bathroom at work and silent screaming until the frustration moves through.
Sometimes it's having the hard conversation. And sometimes it's choosing no conversation at all.
Sometimes it's writing a rage letter and burning it.
Sometimes it's just this one breath. Not box breathing. Not a technique. Just air in and air out the way your body does naturally, without being told how.
For a long time, I thought I was doing healing wrong. I thought it had to look like bubble baths and yoga. Neither of which I enjoy. So I figured there was something broken in me.
There wasn't. I just hadn't found my version of healing yet.
Healing is not one-size-fits-all. It never was.
Part of healing is the adventure of figuring out what healing actually looks like for you. Not what works for someone else. Not what looks good on the outside. What actually works for you.
I often get asked what someone should do about a specific situation. My answer is almost always the same.
What would benefit your healing most?
You know more than you think you do. Your nervous systems are already telling you. We just get really good at overriding them.
So if screaming is what your body needs today, that is just as valid as a slow mindful walk. One is not better than the other. Both are healing. Both count.
Whatever it looks like for you today, that belongs.
There are days I feel like I don’t make an impact, that my work doesn’t help people enough. Then I have days like yesterday.
It’s my day off, but I have a very special case. This amazing person came to me yesterday. They had been in and out of the emergency room, have been off and on for years. Not getting help they needed. I did visceral manipulation abdominal massage. Back to back sessions.
This amazing person Mom texted me last night that my work did more for her than months of doctors visits.
Visceral manipulation is probably the most impactful massage modality I have learned!

Two years.
That's how long this has been living in me: in drafts, in tears, in late-night and early-morning rewrites.
I wrote a book.
Not a clinical guide. Not a polished story written for people's comfort.
A book written directly to survivors, and to those brave enough to walk alongside them. About the parts of healing that are messy, sacred, and hard as hell.
It's called Unbroken.
The proof copy arrives on Tuesday. I'll be holding it for the first time.
Publishing date coming this week (I hope). I'm excited. I'm having a vulnerability hangover, so I thought I'd let you in on this little adventure of mine.
Small business Saturday!! Building my business has been one of the most difficult things I have done. It has also been one of the greatest joys of my life!! I wouldn’t have it any other way!
When I look back at my life I am so thankful I found where I’m supposed to be! It took a lot of years, and a lot of hard lessons learned, but I know that my work as a massage therapist is where I am supposed to be!
