I see a lot of blue ribbons there! I always love to see others' talents and passions as we walk through the county fair. Growing up, my sister and I used to enter our artwork in the Art Hall, and it was such a rush to see our work being rewarded with a ribbon. I get the same rush now as I display products that I have put a lot of research, time, and thought into. Bonus: I also got the peanut butter milkshake I look forward to every year from the Jr. Fair board as well as fries with plenty of vinegar! Fun fact: I used to also take lambs to the fair with 4-H. My sister and I always named them famous pairs such as Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid or KC and JoJo😜.

Why do beekeepers use smoke on beehives when they are working with them?
Well, bees communicate a lot through pheromes, or different smells. The smoke covers these pheromes of the guard bees so that the other bees do not get upset. Smoke also sends a signal to the bees that there is a forest fire, so they start eating honey in order to have a full stomach in case they have to abandon the hive. A full belly makes them less able to sting. The smoke does not harm them, but it does make them more calm and more pleasurable to work around when trying to maintain the hive!
