I’ve recently had several clients reach out to me about installing boho braid-in locs.
This is one of my favorite services that I offer so I feel I’m responsible for briefly educating clients on their history & the appropriate terms used 🖤

The term "dreadlocs" is often avoided because of its historical and cultural associations. The word "dread" in "dreadlocs" originated during the colonial era, when European colonizers viewed the natural, locked hairstyles of African and Afro-Caribbean people as "dreadful" or "frightening." This negative connotation stigmatized a cultural practice that was, and still is, deeply meaningful in various African and Rastafarian traditions.

Today, many people prefer to use the term "locs" instead of "dreadlocs" to honor the hairstyle's cultural roots without reinforcing the harmful colonial perspective. Using "locs" acknowledges and respects the hairstyle as a symbol of pride, spirituality, and cultural identity.

Remember, if we’re participating & sharing other cultures, learning about them & using proper terms should be our first priority 😁
I recommend doing some research on your own as well, there’s so much to learn from it!

A dear client of mine is throwing a silent auction for a friend of hers who has cancer. I was asked to put some baskets together & so far I have Shampoo, conditioner, flat iron & dry shampoo.
