If you’re over 40 like me and you don’t understand how to brace your core properly, it’s potentially going to cause injury. Sucking your belly button back and vacuuming back is actually not good for your spine. Let me show you why it doesn’t work. Now, she’s going to vacuum back and suck her belly button back. Now resist me. Fight me hard. You can see she’s very unstable in that position. Big pressure in the core, so everything is stiff. Don’t let me push you down. Look at the stability difference. Let’s practice intra-abdominal pressure. I’m going to take the fingers, dig them into the obliques, take the thumbs, dig them into the back muscles. And all we’re going to do is dig in cough. You can see the expansion this way in my core. Tap your core. You should have a firm muscle contraction all the way around. Keep that position while you’re doing your squats, while you’re doing any sort of exercise. That’s going to really truly stabilize your spine, prevent back injury, and most importantly, get you better, not older. #core #corestrength #corestability 10/19/2024
