It is with deep sadness I have to announce that Wax ‘n’ Go will be closed indefinitely due to Covid, its variants, the science deniers, and the people who refuse to wear a mask to keep other people safe.
I miss you all terribly. Waxing is and always will be my passion. I truly hoped we would have gotten this thing handled by now, and we were SO CLOSE to beating Covid a few months ago, but with the mask mandate being dropped and people experiencing pandemic fatigue, all that time working to get it under control was futile. The risk associated with working with the public is too great for my family and I. I cannot pay rent for a space I am not working in, and I cannot risk bringing Covid home to my family by working.
Vaccinated people can still be asymptomatic carriers, the vaccine only truly protects you from over loading the hospital ICUs and lessens your chances of dying should you contract Covid. Masks and social distancing are what dramatically help lower the spread of the viral load in the air.
Every service person you encounter has a life outside their work. Has a family. They could be immune compromised or live with someone who is. Please think of others as you go about your lives, and respect that other people want to live their lives, too, free of Covid. This is a group effort. Until we all get it together, all get on one page, all agree to wear a mask and socially distance... Covid will never go away. We must make some sacrifices for the greater good, being uncomfortable in a mask while you run errands to insure safety for those around you really isn’t that hard.
I hope you all are staying safe and healthy. I promise I’ll be back, but realistically probably not until 2023-2025 at this rate. Much love and well wishes to you all.
Well wishes from your Vaxxed and Masked Esthetician,
Jessica

Hey Wax ‘n’ Goers!
While Governor Newsom may have just lifted the shelter in place mandate, and Nathan Fletcher gave the green light for San Diego salons to operate indoors during purple tier again, I will be doing the ethical and morally correct thing and staying closed until our ICU availability is at 15% or greater.
We can only get through this together if everyone sacrifices a little bit and does the right thing, then perhaps we can get through this pandemic this year.
Please wear a mask, don’t gather, and stay 6’ or more away from people not in your household.
In solidarity,
Jessica

Yup. We are still closed Wax ‘n’ Goers.
Wax ‘n’ Go survived the economy tanking in 2009, but yeah, this is borderline ridiculous.
0% ICU capacity means that until people chill out and stay home and start taking this seriously that we will be mandated closed until 15% ICU capacity is achieved.
I know staying home sucks. I know not seeing friends sucks. I know not getting your hair cut or colored or removed by a professional is annoying. I know take out doesn’t taste as good as eating in a restaurant - but seriously, we need to make some sacrifices for the greater good before we are stuck in a pandemic until 2025.
We will only get through this if we ALL work together. If we all mask up when we are outside of our home or car (and mask up if your window is down at a drive thru), if we all stay 6’+ away from people we don’t live with in our household (yes, even family from outside your house), if you stop traveling for non-essential purposes, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and stop dining outside of restaurants... only then can we get through this. Do curbside pickup for your groceries, order online, use Instacart... do what you need to do to stay tf home and away from other people.
I am watching friends and family who have been so careful but were still exposed due to other people around them drop like flies to Covid-19, and it is so unnecessary. Please do your part to stop the spread so we can all return back to some semblance of normalcy sooner rather than later.
We need to come together in 2021 and stop being so self-centered and selfish and take a step back to look at the big picture.
Wax ‘n’ Go will be closed until further notice.
If you can’t bother to wear a mask, stay 6’ away and stay home during a pandemic, you can deal with looking like the selfish hairy trolls you are.

Two community outbreaks from yesterday in Salon and Spa settings. Please wear masks PROPERLY above your nose while out, maintain social distancing, and help stop the spread so I can go back to work safely and not jeopardize my family’s health to keep a roof over our heads.
This isn’t a political issue. It’s a scientific fact that COVID-19 is a highly contagious airborne virus that can kill perfectly healthly people of all ages - and considering the fact that over half of my immediate family in my household is compromised, I cannot return to waxing until the case numbers and outbreaks become much, much lower.
Please do your part to help the community be safe, Wax ‘n’ Goers. We are all counting on each other to do the right thing. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Do your part.
Big love,
Jess

Hello Wax ‘n’ Goers!
I know you must all be SO excited that things are opening up so quickly and that they are starting to allow beauty professionals back to work.
My goal is to insure I keep my family healthy, and keep you all healthy as well.
As such, despite the State now allowing waxing from the neck to toes effective today, we are going to wait for three weeks and watch the numbers to see if San Diego sees a spike in cases with so much opening up so quickly.
Slow and steady stays alive, and as much as I miss you all - risking our lives is just something I’m not willing to do. In three weeks I will make a determination on if it is safe for me to reopen Wax ‘n’ Go or if we may need to stay closed through the fall/winter to avoid exposure from a second wave.
I love and appreciate you all, and hope you all continue to stay safe. Wear masks. Social distance. Please continue to wash your hands and try to stay home if you can. I look forward to seeing you all in the future when it is completely safe to do so. 💖
This is an authorized statement from a Public Health Expert and CDC Pandemic Advisor Prof. Mark Rothstein of Univ. of Louisville.

Re- opening of Personal Beauty Services and Salons in California and the rest of the US:
"No state is even satisfying the White House statement of what it would take to be ready, which would be two weeks of diminished caseloads. The number of cases are still way too high and they aren’t going down fast enough to open. And in 20 states the cases are going up and will probably go up in most states because they are open too soon. When there is community virus pe*******on, it is too soon. California is not an island; people come here from all over and if there’s a high level of virus anywhere, it is a risk everywhere. The level of virus in the US is too high to open up.
An industry where people are close together, in each other's personal space, touching each other's faces, will not be ready for opening until we have lowered the viral load in the country as a whole. Also, we must have an effective Covid treatment (which we do not have), contact tracing, and far more access to testing. We are nowhere near ready. “
“For cosmetology and barbering, there are two main risks:
1) There are too many people around. So in other words, if you are thinking of a shop with 12 chairs and a lobby full of people waiting, that's no good. The first thing you would need to do is have as much social distancing as possible. You can do that with staggered scheduling, you don't have them waiting. The people and workers need to be spread out. If you have one on one services, and especially if you use masks, certainly with hair (not make up) the risks can be controlled.
2) You need to realize even though at the beginning of the pandemic there was a lot of focus on the surfaces need to be cleaned, but that never was the real risk. This is a respiratory disease. The odds of touching something and getting the disease. The real risk is people breathing in your space. And in hair salons the hair dryers are the real risk. If you imagine sitting on top of someone's head is talcum powder and then you put it under a blow dryer. This is similar. You are prolonging the period in which it is distributed through the air and these viral particles are very small and you can't put those in motion. You want to have really good ventilation (windows open and have air blowing out of the window, not into from the window). If you can have HEPA filters, that would help. A lot of this is common sense. A lot of people view a barber shop or salon as an experience to hang out that can't work. This is not the time or place to chit chat. I think the owners need to make that clear and not allow people to congregate inside in close proximity. You have to have masks and gloves for everyone all the time.
It isn't safe for anyone to do any esthetician work as long as the amount of virus is as high as it is right now. But there are some ways to minimize the risk. You don't need to wait until the virus is eradicated, because that won't happen in our lifetimes, but we need a better handle on it than we have right now. Taking people's temp is not really valuable. It only gives the illusion that we're safe, but masks and gloves and testing can decrease the risk. And you want to use all disposable materials. New gloves and capes for each customer. Everything will need to be single use and you will need to build in time to sanitize between customers.”
On use of steamers in treatment rooms:
“No steamers because it propels the virus off the face and into the air.”
All that said... We have not flattened the curve enough. I miss you all, but our health and lives are more important than being waxed. It is just not safe to be in a salon environment right now, no matter how much our governments are trying to push us back to work to boost the economy. Stay safe, Wax ‘n’ Goers.

A group of “Salon Professionals” (and I use that term loosely) are suing California’s Governor to allow them to reopen prematurely before it is safe. They have stated they represent ALL salon professionals... let me be clear:
We speak for ourselves.
🧡
We haven’t been begging for a lawsuit against the governor; no one asked us.
🧡
We didn’t ask attorneys to file a lawsuit on our behalf.
🧡
We haven’t received financial assistance largely, but you’re still getting paid.
🧡
We are drowning in debt, but you are asking us to contribute to your Go Fund Me Campaign to push forward with your lawsuit.
🧡
We have helped each other, our clients, our neighbors and strangers by offering up help with filing for loans and assistance, sharing resources we’ll need for the new normal in our industry.
🧡
We have been a shoulder to cry on when the hard decision has been made to shutter our businesses.
🧡
We are strong and steadfast in our commitment to protecting our families, our clients, our professional licenses that puts the priority of the health and safety of the public first. Not the priority of a dollar.
🧡
We have been there for each other.
🧡
You do not speak for us.
I will not open until it is safe to do so. I will not risk the lives of my self, my family, or my clients. I am following the numbers. I am guided by science. I know your hairy bodies are probably out of control - but that can wait. As much as I miss every single one of you - our lives are worth more than the temporary gratification of being smooth.

Salons are not permitted to reopen until Phase 3. I miss you all very much and hope you are all staying safe at home if possible!
The Board urges licensees to follow the stay at home orders. If businesses continue to put public health and safety at risk by not following the guidance provided, and if circumstances warrant it, the Board may pursue disciplinary action against their license. This will not be taken lightly.

Hey Wax ‘n’ Goers!
It’s been 38 days since I last saw clients - and I know your hair is probably grown out by now... but please know that the mandate to shelter in place is still in effect indefinitely. There is no date to return back, and we are just entering our first wave peak. I cannot wax anyone because beauty services are NOT essential. I know you feel like they are - but I promise you your health and safety (and mine) are much more essential.
With the very real threat of silent carriers of COVID-19 in the community - there is no safe way to service anyone without risking infection. Taking a temperature before service is fruitless. You may feel well, but still be a carrier, and I absolutely cannot risk that. Your health and safety is at the forefront and why I cannot come in to wax right now, and likely won’t be back to work for awhile. Not to mention I could be fined $1,000 and get up to 6 months in jail and likely lose my license. These are risks I will not take.
I miss you all very much and wish you all good health. Please stay safe, wear a mask (mandatory in San Diego for everyone out in public effective May 1st), wash your hands, but most importantly stay home. Keep flattening that curve... the faster we all do our part and stay home the faster we can all get back to our regularly scheduled programming.
With love,
Jessica
