Things every bride is wondering but doesn’t want to ask… If my bridesmaids are paying for their own hair and makeup, how does that work?

This is where it’s important to remember that you are the client who is booking and contracting the beauty team—even if your bridesmaids are ultimately paying for their own services.

There are a few ways to handle it:

You can have your bridesmaids pay for everything themselves, contribute a specific dollar amount toward their services, gift the services in lieu of another bridesmaid gift, or cover one service and let them decide whether they want to pay for the other.

Whatever you choose, decide before the wedding day and communicate it clearly.

And one more thing I always recommend: send your bridesmaids your artists’ website or social media. Let them see the work and make sure the style resonates with them. You might be surprised how many will actually get excited about having their hair and makeup professionally done once they know what to expect.

💍Things every bride is wondering but doesn’t want to ask… Should you pay for hair and makeup for your bridal party?

No. You absolutely do not have to.

After 20+ years in the industry and 120+ weddings a year, I can tell you that it is very common for bridesmaids to pay for their own hair and makeup.

And honestly, the more weddings you attend, the more you’ll realize this is completely normal.

If you have the budget and want to gift it to your bridal party, amazing. But if you don’t, you should not feel guilty about asking your bridesmaids to cover their own services.

The one thing I would be thoughtful about? Who you prioritize. Your mom, sister, maid of honor and closest friends are likely to be in the photos you’ll print, frame and keep forever.

So no—you don’t need to pay for everyone. You just need to decide what makes the most sense for your wedding.
