I’ve recently learned, that simple is fancy.

From a recent pitch-in, I made three simple dishes: roasted carrots, roasted Brussels sprouts and roasted mushrooms.

And someone made the comment, “Wow, that looks fancy!”

I thought to myself, “wow, really? That looks fancy to you? It was so simple and it’s just vegetables.”

As I reflected on that moment, I recognize we can tend to complicate things, overthink things or think we have to do really BIG things to make an impact, whether in our personal or professional lives.

During massage, the client and therapist both get into a relaxed state. They perform focused muscle relaxation in which the client and therapist work together to melt areas of hypertonicity. The therapist searches the client’s body for areas of tension, and when one is found the client uses the heat and energy from the therapist’s hand to pinpoint its precise location. The client then breathes through the spot and uses his or her mind to relax it. The therapist does not stay in an area too long; he or she moves on to other areas of the body to prepare it for rest.

Touch the stressed client with compassion, and show him the way to relax, unwind and let go of his stress and tension. These techniques will help reverse the client’s sympathetic nervous system arousal and return him to homeostasis. A successful stress-reduction treatment will help the client feel as if a tremendous weight has been lifted off his shoulders, and allow him to rest, relax, and heal from the stresses and strains of life.

To refresh your memory, it reduces anxiety/depression, reduces headaches, boosts immune system function, promotes better nights sleep, among many other benefits. On top of massage benefits, you will also reap the rewards of practicing self-care! Some of which include: better productivity, improved resistances to disease, better physical health, enhanced self-esteem, increased self-knowledge, and having more of yourself to give. People are unsure how to be with themselves. It can feel like being with a stranger.
