Theresa Buccola Stained Glass

While working as an apprentice at Pacassa, a woodworking and fabrication studio in Oakland, I helped build and install these retaining walls where we bent 28 strips of wood around a mold over the course of a couple of weeks, securing them with giant rubber bands and heavy layers of glue. The two guys I studied under were were great teachers so my mind could relax enough to learn how to use the tools - because at first I was scared of them. After a month, Christopher said that for someone who had no experience in a shop before my abilities with the tools was “phenomenal.” I attribute it mostly to their patience, bc after all, I was only a girl. 🤣 After we closed the gate on Friday night we’d engage in behavior that may have involved shots of whiskey & bb guns and I was dating a guy that was slightly younger at the time so their nickname for me was “Private Cougar.” 🤣 Later I worked in a shop in San Francisco, when I was trying to rip a 4’ x 8’ piece of plywood on the table saw and the owner, (with the staff standing there watching me), screamed mid-rip, something about how I wasn’t holding the board right and yelled, “Some people learn through pain!” That was my last day, I never went back. I don’t learn like that, which is even more testament to how awesome Marcus and Christopher were as bosses.
