I planted a couple of golden-berry seedlings and now they’ve taken over this corner my garden. These sunny berries (Physalis peruviana) are tiny powerhouses: vitamin A, C, K, fiber, and antioxidants that support blood-vessel health. If you care about heart health, try growing one plant or pick up a small basket — snack, toss in salads, or cook into a tangy chutney. Save this for growing tips & recipes!

Discover the delight of Miner's Lettuce, a luscious plant with a rich history. Known for its relationship with prospectors and miners, it's been a prized salad green and source of Vitamin C. Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Coast valued it for its medicinal properties, using it to alleviate rheumatic pain, restore appetite, and as a diuretic. This knowledge was passed down through generations. The plant thrives as a low-growing annual with fleshy leaves and stems, adorned with small white flowers. Served fresh in salads, just like the miners did over 150 years ago. Have you spotted this gem in your neighborhood? I cultivate a wild meadow of Miner's Lettuce on my property, where it reseeds and expands each year. Unfortunately, this plant is under threat due to habitat loss, and its decline also erases historical knowledge and practices. Protecting Miner's Lettuce is crucial not just for the plant, but for preserving the cultural heritage tied to it.
