This Labor Day, let's honor the hard work your heart does by knowing our cholesterol numbers.
Cholesterol is made by the liver.
LDL (bad) cholesterol lays around contributes to the blockages in the arteries.
HDL (good) cholesterol picks up extra cholesterol and returns it to the liver for removal from the body.
Goals
Total cholesterol under 200
HDL cholesterol over 60
LDL cholesterol under 100 ( under 70 for high risk people)
Triglycerides under 150
One of the new recommendations is to start screening for Lipoprotein (a) in adults level to look for any genetic factors for heart disease.
