In the last three years, I’ve had over 50 endometriosis lesions cut out of my body. A chocolate cyst that was adhering my o***y to my side was removed. An appendectomy and a hernia repair. I’ve felt indescribable, inescapable pain. Trying to keep my invisible illness to myself after being told by doctors it was just “part of being a woman.” I spent 10 years being undiagnosed. As a teenager and young woman, I felt weak and deeply insecure. I was trapped in my own body. March is endometriosis awareness month. As this month comes to a close, I urge everyone to remember this invisible disease each and every day. To lend support, compassion and grace towards the millions who suffer. It’s up to all of us to raise awareness, not just for endometriosis but for women’s health as a whole. No one deserves to suffer in silence. For more information I turned to and . Let’s clear something up.

It is not normal to:
• vomit from period pain
• pass out in a bathroom stall
• miss work or school every month
• bleed through protection in an hour
• dread intimacy because it hurts
• live on a heating pad like it’s oxygen

And yet how many of us were told:

“That’s just being a woman.”
“Periods hurt.”
“You’re dramatic.”
“Take ibuprofen.”

Endometriosis isn’t “bad cramps.”
It’s tissue growing where it doesn’t belong.
It’s inflammation.
It’s organs sticking together.
It’s fertility battles no one prepared you for.

If you have to schedule your life around pain, that’s not normal.

And being dismissed for years?
That’s not normal either.

Believe women the first time.

You know what’s wild?

How many women had to fight harder for a diagnosis than they ever did for pain relief.

Years.

Average diagnosis time? 7 to 10 years.

Seven to ten years of:
• ER visits
• being sent home
• normal ultrasounds
• “everything looks fine”
• being told it’s anxiety

Endometriosis often doesn’t show up on basic imaging.

So you can be in debilitating pain
and still be told nothing is wrong.

Let that sink in.

You can be suffering
and still be dismissed.

If you had to self advocate.
If you had to switch doctors.
If you had to research your own symptoms at 2 am.

You were never crazy.

You were unheard.

And you deserved better.
