New client came in after a haircut elsewhere that was supposed to be an alt mullet but landed more like a long layered s**g. They couldn't style it, couldn't get it to do what they wanted. They reached out, I happened to have an opening, and we saved the day.🥳

The problem? The layers weren't pushed up high enough and the interior was loaded with weight. I boosted their layers up several inches, added an immense amount of texture, and took maybe a half inch off the length. But that pile of hair on the floor? That all came out of the interior, after the hair had already been cut somewhere else. That's how much more weight needed to come out.

If your textured cut isn't styling well, that's your number one clue you need more texture, not less. The haircut isn't just the silhouette. It's the interior. Now this client just needs a simple wet product, a quick blow dry, and a little spray wax. Done. 💫

While I adore working with every length (long hair included), as a short-haired stylist myself I have a special place in my heart for cuts like this.

Short hair is structural art to me. First I nail the shape so it flatters your features and looks good from every angle, because with short hair there isn’t enough length to ‘style around’ a bad cut. Then I go back in for step two and rebalance the interior weight removing bulk, carving softness, and adding custom texture so it moves, has edge, and still feels effortless to style.

Pixie magic on the sweetest human. 💫🥰

This girl has the cutest pixie face ever – she could honestly be a pixie model but when she came in, the shape was all wrong and she was working way too hard to make it behave.

The first two sets of photos show her before and after from the front and back: her old cut was missing texture through the entire top, so her only option was to pile it high with tons of product and spray, and the back was flat with no real shape, which actually made her head look taller and too elongated for her face.

What we did was fix the shape and add texture; a pixie should flow and become a structural form of art from every direction – front to back and side to side – and you can see in the third cluster of photos that it now has flow, texture, and movement from every angle without her having to work hard for it at all. 💓

I was genuinely honored to work with her and I am so happy we tweaked her pixie into something workable, fun, and fully her. This sweet client is lucky enough to have hair that naturally lightens in the sun, so by carving in long, loose waterfall layers we created movement and lift that pulled all that sun‑kissed light through the ends, almost presenting like a balayage. Minimal, strategic layers brought her super long hair back to life, added classic, elegant movement, and kept every bit of fullness. ☀️🫰🔥

The first grouping shows her before shots: just over an inch of natural regrowth, a few inches of banding, some spottiness, and leftover vivid color. You can also see the upward sectioning of the hidden panel I was planning to lift clean and clear underneath.

In one three-hour sitting, we lifted and cleaned that lower panel, then applied a filler color to the top section so it would really grab and hold pigment. After rinsing, we toned the bottom panel, brought her back to the chair, and applied a deep red velvet on top for that rich, amethysty finish. 💜🤍

The second grouping is the after: a super intentional bi-level color with a crystal-clear under panel and a velvety red-violet top that just melt together. We pushed her cut into a much deeper, s**ggier shape than she’d had before, and now it’s this effortless, whimsical, elven s**g that honestly looks like she should be cast in a movie. 🧝‍♀️💫🎥
