𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲! 🗽 Did you know, in 2018 I was invited to be seen by model scouts for WILHELMINA Models in New York City?? 🧐

If you've ever watched America's Next Top Model, then Yes!! This is the same agency the girls are competing for a contract with! 👯

It was a BIG DEAL to be INVITED to be seen. They don't accept walk-ins. There were no open calls. I had a modeling agent here in Ohio pull some strings for me.

So my husband and I packed our bags, flew to the city, took alllll the connector trains 😄, and finally arrived at our fancy (but very small) hotel room.

We had a great time together, but I definitely came there for a reason...

📝 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁.🤩

Otherwise I would have felt like we wasted so much 💲💲💲💲. And believe it or not, at 25 I was on the brink of being "too old" to have a chance of getting another opportunity like this. (Most agencies want ~15 year olds.. Girls they can mold and build a long career with.)

⤵️ ❌ But here's where I failed:
𝗠𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆.

Agencies only want girls with perfect skin. That's plain and simple. Black and white. If they're going to put the time and effort and their name behind you, then you better check all their boxes. Realistically, acne prone skin or "bad skin" is seen as unprofessional. It means more work for everyone involved at the photoshoot... More time and product used by the makeup artist. 👎And more editing time for the retouchers. 👎

I tried my best to clear my skin before I left. Before my meeting I applied as little makeup as possible to cover the redness and bumps, as you can see in my NYC picture. But here's the thing, wearing makeup to a call back is a huge no no. I was specifically told to come fresh-faced. Aka, NO MAKEUP. That was mistake number two. (LOL I tried, but I wasn't foolin' anyone!) 😄 The other pictures show what my skin really looked like that year.

After a quick interview, which probably lasted all of 10 minutes. I was simply told, "They would let my Ohio agent know."

😑😑

I knew right then and there if they wanted me they would have offered me a contract before I left.

I actually went to see another agency that same day, and received the same answer.

Weeks after our trip my Ohio agent called me and said that both agencies had passed on me. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

😭😭 Which was so hard to hear at the time.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀. It was that way for years, and only getting worse. Months later I even tried to be seen again at Wilhelmina's smaller branch agency in Chicago, last pic, but my skin was still flaring up.

Once in awhile I could tame my skin with a brand new skincare or vitamin routine, but after a month it would all come back with a vengeance. I even tried red light therapy.

I eventually broke down and went to the dermatologist, who diagnosed me with cystic acne and perioral dermatitis. She put me on some strong medications, which were totally out of my norm of taking. Immediately I could tell what she had given me were just (uncomfortably) drying my skin out, so I quit.

𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 2019 𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶. At first I just watched as another local lady shared info. Honestly I thought it was too expensive to try. 😆

In December 2019 I begged my husband to buy me "The Trifecta" for Christmas. Which is Crunchi's Smart Primer, Foundation, and Flat Top Brush.

𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 lol. 🌅

By the end of February 2020 I had signed up as an advocate and began using the full skin care line.

𝗠𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿! 🙌..I'm sure you've seen my timeline photo of how my skin healed up over that year!! (If not just ask and I'll post it below!)

So here we are in 2021, I'm 9 months pregnant and my skin is still completely clear!

The point of sharing this story is to let you know that when I say my skin used to be a train wreck, 𝗜 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸!! It even cost me a modeling career (and an expensive trip to New York City 🙄).

I'm not bitter about losing out on that contract. In the grand scheme of things, I do believe everything worked out the way it was meant to be. ✨ It's all divine timing.

But nevertheless, I still remember how yucky it felt to be judged by my skin. It was embarrassing, for sure.

We recommend always making sure your lashes are fully dry before applying the mascara. If you use foundation, concealer, skincare, oil based makeup removers, facial oils, any lash serums, etc make sure your lashes are free from any oils and are dry before applying mascara. You can also use a small amount of finishing powder over your eyelids and lash line before mascara application. This will make sure the mascara holds onto your lashes and will make application so much easier! *This tip also works great for those with oily eyelids.

I highly recommend giving this reformulation a try!
