That feeling you get when you finally getting that cut 😄!!!!

If you’ve spent enough time in the barber shop, at some point you’ve probably thought about how long it really takes for a good haircut. 🤔

Truth is, there are many factors between the client and barber that influence the average time it takes to cut someone’s hair. These include aspects like the barbers experience, skill level and tools, but also factors like hair type, the desired cut, and how well it’s maintained. For that reason, there’s really no right or wrong answer.

Now typically, an experienced barber may spend as little as 15 mins or as much as 35 on each haircut. If a client requests enhancements or a design, a quick cut can easily extend to an hour or more. 🕕🕦🕚

Since an answer can’t really be pinned down to a specific number, as all cases do vary, the best response to this question is actually a very simple, universal concept…. when you’re happy with your cut. 😎🤞🏾💈

Achievement is never accomplished at the hands of one person.👩🏾‍🎓👨🏽‍💼👨🏻‍💻👩🏼‍🏫

As much as we try to shoulder responsibilities in our lives, working with others and leveraging the power of relationships provides us access to resources we wouldn’t otherwise have to accomplish goals we wouldn’t otherwise achieve.

For us to make progress as a people, we must step out of our comfort zone to not only allow others’ involvement in our success, but to actively participate in contributing to the success of others.

Like the old sayings goes, “if you want to go farther, go together”. 💡💯🤞🏾

There’s no such thing as magic. It’s all in the details. 💯🌠🪄

As people, what we learn about ourselves through life comes from the connections we make with the people, places, and things around us.

For many growing up, the barber shop has been a cornerstone for finding that connection, in a world we aren’t always welcomed in.

It revitalizes our well-being.
It rejuvenates our bond.
It reaffirms our identity.

Depending on your barber, you may or may not be familiar with the difference, but it goes without saying that all haircuts are NOT created equal. ☝🏾🤐🙅🏾‍♂️

✔️NATURAL haircuts are just as they sound, natural. The barber simply cuts the hair just as it is without any extra additives aside from a little oil sheen or aftershave at the end of the cut at the barber’s discretion.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☑️ ENHANCEMENTS are products that are used to make hair look either less grey, more even/symmetrical, or full for those experiencing some receding or thinning hair. This includes any spray/dye applied to the haircut or beard such as Bigen, Black Ice etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These enhancements can certainly create a great photo opportunity, as the sharpened edges make the haircut stand out more in the moment. With the rise of social media, you may fail to realize that many of the crispy haircuts you see online have actually been enhanced. Despite this, it’s important to remember the effects are only temporary as they can wash away in the shower, and even be overdone, giving you a “shoe polish” result (shoutout Carlos Boozer 🤣). While it may look more crisp at first, there is always a chance of the hairline appearing less aligned within a day.

Although a natural cut may leave receding to be more evident if the hair isn’t cut short enough, a natural hairline will stay in tact longer, keeping the cut fresher between visits. Ultimately, it all comes down to a personal choice and what looks best to you.

Everybody knows a neckline trim can make or break a good haircut! What many lose sight of is which trim actually fits them the best. ✂️ 💇🏾‍♂️🕺🏾

🔹The tapered neckline, arguably the most common, is lined up on the sides and faded down toward the neck. This allows allows your neckline to remain even as it grows back, keeping your cut looking neat for the long run.

🔹🔹The squared neckline, also very common, is lined up on the sides as well as the bottom along the neck. This follows the natural growth pattern of the hair, and defines where the hair line stops and starts.

🔹🔹🔹The rounded neckline, as seen more on youth, curves the hairline from the bottom of one ear to the other. This trim tends to look neater at the time of the cut, but fades quickly as the hair grows back to its natural form.

We learned a lot this weekend about some of the myths surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as why we can’t let such inaccuracies discourage us from getting vaccinated.

HUGE shoutout to Fairfax County Community Health Specialist Nikki Wilkens and for coming by the shop this weekend to educate us on the real facts and help to instill community confidence in taking the vaccine upon eligibility.
