This week I started precepting a Duke University Nurse Practitioner student in aesthetic medicine for her clinical rotation at Oak Haus.

This feels especially meaningful because there still aren’t many opportunities for NP students to get exposure to aesthetics during their formal education. Being able to help bridge that gap, even in a small way, is really special to me.

I’ve been an aesthetic NP and injector for almost 10 years, and one thing I truly believe is that safety always comes first. There is so much more to aesthetic medicine than learning how to perform a treatment.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll focus on facial assessment, anatomy, patient selection, treatment planning, complication management, and something I think is just as important — knowing when not to treat.

I’m excited to share what I’ve learned over the years and give her a real look into thoughtful, safe and natural aesthetic medicine.

5 years between these two photos

This is what facial balancing over time can look like.

When we started, she had significant volume loss through the cheeks and noticeable dimpling through the chin. Over the years, we’ve used dermal filler for her cheeks, chin, jawline and under-eyes, with Botox touch-ups as needed.

There was never a goal to change her face or do everything at once. We treated what made sense at each visit, let things settle, reassessed, and continued to build on the results over time.

And 5 years later, she still looks like herself — just refreshed, balanced and supported as her face has naturally changed with time.

This is probably my favorite way to approach facial balancing and injectables: thoughtful treatments over time rather than trying to do everything in one appointment.

Natural doesn’t always mean doing nothing. Sometimes it means knowing what to treat, how much, and when to stop.

** I know lighting looks different I mean it’s been 5 years :) **

This patient came to me for the first time after having filler treatments elsewhere. She knew something didn’t feel quite right anymore — she just didn’t feel like herself.

During her full-face assessment, I noticed fullness under the eyes where previous under-eye filler was present, along with excess volume through the cheeks that was limiting some of the natural movement of her smile and creating an overall fuller appearance.

After a little education and talking through her goals, we decided that instead of adding more dermal filler, we would dissolve and reassess.

These results are 2 months apart, after two filler-dissolving sessions — with no new filler added.

And I love what we see: more of her. Her natural contours. Her expression. Her smile. 🤍

Sometimes good aesthetic medicine is knowing where to add filler.
Sometimes it’s knowing when to dissolve it.

The goal is always facial balance, natural results, and still looking like you.

Forehead lines were her biggest concern… but her lids already felt heavy.

So the goal here was to really smooth the forehead without unnecessarily restricting her brows.

I paid close attention to how she was using her forehead and brows before treating, and used a combination of superficial + deeper Botox injection patterns based on her movement and anatomy.

2 weeks later 🤍
Her forehead lines are significantly softer, her frown is relaxed, and we were still able to preserve the brow movement that was important for her.

This is why I don’t treat every forehead with the same pattern. Sometimes the smallest changes in placement and depth can make a big difference in how Botox looks and feels.

If you’ve felt heavy after forehead Botox before — or you’re worried about it because your lids already feel heavy — definitely mention it during your assessment. :)

Attended the Maeve Gala Yesterday 🥰

After days of planning, setting up, brainstorming , samples, signs, and every little detail… seeing everyone excited and interact with our little Oak Haus setup made it all so worth it ✨

One of the best parts of the night was meeting so many amazing people, local businesses, and creatives all in one space. Maeve Gala did such a beautiful job bringing everyone together and creating an evening that felt so warm, welcoming, and inspiring.

So grateful we got to share a little piece of Oak Haus 🤍

Can you tell what’s real and what’s not 😳😂

We took some photos a couple weeks ago for work, and then I asked ChatGPT to create a few extra poses using them 😅Now this post is a mix of the real photos and the AI-generated ones… and honestly it’s kind of crazy how real some of them look.

Comment if you can tell which ones are real 👀

Starting Botox in your 30s/40s vs starting in your 60s can look very different ✨

In your 30s and 40s, lines are usually more movement-based. So after the first Botox session, they often smooth pretty quickly because the skin has less “memory” of those repeated expressions.

At this stage, Botox is not just treating lines that are already there — it’s also helping prevent deeper lines from setting in over time.

In your 60s, the conversation becomes a little different.

If you’ve never done Botox before, many lines have been there for years, so they can become more “set” into the skin. Botox can still make a beautiful improvement, but it may take a few sessions to gradually soften everything.

Another important thing people don’t always realize:

As we age, many people unconsciously use their forehead muscles to help keep their eyes looking more open. So the forehead muscle becomes very important.

That’s why fully treating forehead lines in someone older can sometimes create brow heaviness or make the eyes feel smaller.

So treatment becomes less about “erasing every line” and more about balance:
• softer lines
• brighter, more open eyes
• natural movement
• still looking like yourself

This is why Botox is never one-size-fits-all — especially as we age 🤍
