I 10000% agree that the time and money we invest in our products, training, continuing education, mental and physical health needs to make the job worth it. Yes. But this takes time, patience and eventual mastery of learning good business practices.

And believe it or not, being a working makeup and/or hair artist takes BUSINESS education.

You need to learn:

Content creation and matketing

Organic and Paid Ads

Email sequence and CRM automation

Writing a great contract and having an easy payment system (hire a layer and CPA to set you up for success here)
Website design with SEO front end and
backend optimization
Accounting- know you cash flow statement, Profit and Loss Statement, how much you should have in your emergency fund. Open a SEP retirement account or solo 401k. You can save LOADS in taxes.

My background is really weird. I have a Masters in Medieval History and was working towards my second Masters in Accounting. I worked in construction accounting after and did makeup on the weekends. I couldn’t believe people would pay me to do their makeup!! I worked retail cosmetics for $18/hour and selling lipsticks was soul sucking.

Anyway, if you’re saying- “c’mon clients- look how I hard I work- how early I wake up?!” This is part of your job description.
