The duo nobody asked for, and everybody needs. 🫶
Organic Vs. Inorganic is your one-hour pigment crash course. Alex Mechenici breaks down what’s actually in the bottle, including what to reach for on lips and blonde tones. That’s the matcha. You sit with it.
Gloss & Growth is the full lip era. Twelve sessions covering mapping, neutralization, ombré, mature skin, plus the pricing and marketing stuff nobody bothered teaching you in training. That’s the coffee. Fast, strong, done before your first client.
Do the pigment course first, then watch the lip demos. So many more clicks when you know what’s in the bottle. Both come with an AAM certificate.

Here’s a question most artists can’t actually answer. What does your certification require, beyond showing up and paying for it?
Meaningful certification means eligibility review, verified documentation, an exam, a look at your practice history, and renewal requirements. A weaker version is just a badge with nothing checked behind it. Most clients assume every certificate means the same thing. It doesn’t, and most artists have never had to explain the difference out loud.
AAM’s Board Certification requires verified training hours, current bloodborne pathogen certification, business licensing, liability insurance, documented procedure samples, and recertification every two years.
The new episode of The PMU Standard gets into why that distinction matters more than ever for artists and the clients trusting them with their face.
Six figures in your first year, after one weekend course. I watched that ad and wondered what alternate universe it was selling, because in this one, competence takes longer than a Saturday and a Sunday.
A full booking calendar doesn’t prove competence, just like a big following doesn’t prove technique. These are the things you can see.
One study found follower counts and likes stopped moving perceived competence the second real results entered the picture. People rated great outcomes higher than mediocre ones, no matter how many likes the post had.
The new episode of The PMU Standard is about integrity in this industry, and it’s not aimed at beginners. It’s aimed at what happens after the weekend course ends.

The loudest artist in the room isn’t automatically the best one, and we’re standing by that.
Here are 9 things the PMU industry needs to change. Not one of them is about being louder, cheaper, or more viral. All nine are about whether clients can actually trust you.
Read the list. Sit with the one that stung a little.
Comment “STANDARDS” if you’re an artist who holds this line.
Coffee didn’t do this. Alcohol did, and coffee’s been taking the blame for years.
Regular coffee isn’t proven to thin blood, and it isn’t proven to make PMU hurt more on its own. A giant energy drink before your appointment is a different story, and one your consultation should actually cover.
For clients who get anxious or jittery on caffeine, everything gets louder, including the discomfort.
Tell a two-cup-a-day regular to quit cold turkey, and you might be trading a calm appointment for a withdrawal headache in your chair.
The new episode of The PMU Standard has the actual research and the exact language to use with clients instead of a blanket rule.

Sorry, I'm busy!
Busy taking care of myself + a brow & lip appointment!
Unpopular opinion: “no caffeine before your appointment” has been on pre-care sheets for years, and most of it is wrong.
Caffeine is not an anticoagulant. Thirteen healthy adults took 750 milligrams of caffeine daily for a week, and researchers found no significant change in platelet aggregation. A regular coffee is not proven to make anyone bleed more.
Energy drinks are a different story entirely. One study found a sixteen-ounce energy drink increased platelet aggregation compared to plain water within an hour.
The new episode of The PMU Standard breaks down what the research actually says about caffeine and pain, caffeine and anxiety, and why telling every client to quit cold turkey might backfire on you mid-procedure.

“ A full calendar doesn’t mean an artist is safe, just as a big following doesn’t mean they were trained right.
Some “certifications” require nothing but a payment and attendance. Some courses promise six-figure income after a weekend, and clients have no way to know the difference between that and real education until something goes wrong.
We’re saying the quiet part out loud. The full post is on the blog.

Your artist told you to skip caffeine and alcohol before your appointment like they’re the same threat. They’re not, and the research says so.
One impairs clotting and healing, and the other might just make you jittery in the chair.
Swipe through before you cancel your morning coffee over nothing.
You already meet the bar most artists are avoiding. Say so, out loud, on your page. Learn more at aampmuboard.org.
PMU is a controlled injury to the skin. Say that a few times and “I’ll just have one drink the night before” starts sounding a lot less harmless.
One study found a single moderate dose of alcohol reduced platelet clot formation, still measurable six hours later. Another found it interfered with clotting under high flow conditions. A separate wound healing study found a single exposure cut fibroblast activity by up to fifty percent in the first day.
You can’t predict how any one client will bleed, bruise, or heal once alcohol’s in the picture. That unpredictability alone is reason enough to keep it out of the pre-appointment routine.
