🎗️September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month 🎗️

At Hair by Abby & Bailey, care has never been only about hair.

It’s about how people feel when they walk through our doors. It’s about creating a space where you can sit down, breathe, talk, laugh, cry, or simply be yourself for a little while. And sometimes, without even realizing it, we become part of someone’s support system.

As hairstylists, we spend hours with the people in our chairs. We hear the stories. We remember the little things. We notice when something feels different. We ask how that job interview went. We notice when the person who normally walks in laughing suddenly seems unusually quiet.

And while we can’t fix someone’s life—and we shouldn’t try to—we can listen.
We can be curious.
We can put our phones down and genuinely be present.
We can say, “I’m really glad you’re here.”
We can remind someone that they matter.

But there’s another side to this that doesn’t get talked about enough:

Hairstylists are people, too.

Being behind the chair can mean putting our own struggles aside so we can show up for everyone else. We try to make everyone happy. We listen to everyone’s problems. We pour so much of ourselves into the people we care for—and sometimes we forget that we deserve that same care in return.

You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to ask for help.
You are allowed to not have it all together.
You are allowed to receive the same compassion you so freely give to everyone else.

And to the person sitting in our chair who may be struggling silently: you don’t have to pretend you’re okay here. You don’t have to carry everything alone.

Sometimes the smallest reminder that someone is loved, remembered, wanted, or valued can make a difference in someone’s entire day.

So this month, check on your people.
Listen a little longer.
Be kind.
Tell someone you appreciate them while they’re here to hear it.

And if you’re struggling, please tell someone you trust. A family member. A friend. Your doctor. Your hairstylist. Anyone who can help connect you with the support you deserve.
