Overheard this week... "I’m seeing positive changes in my bowel habits as I’ve made conscious dietary changes!!"

Four weeks ago, she was fatigued after a bowel movement, struggling with anxiety, poor sleep, and stomach troubles.

“Anyone just hot all the time and can’t cool down? It’s stopping me doing things as I get so overheated and then the panic sets in.”

Can we talk about the menopause math no one warns you about? 🧮

It’s not just: Hormones drop = Hot flashes. It’s actually: Hormones drop + joints start aching + digestion goes haywire + the kids are leaving the nest (or relationships are shifting) + suddenly you’re staring at a bladder issue you’ve never heard of. The transition from perimenopause to post-menopause is a full-body, full-life recalibration. It affects your gut, your mood, your sleep, your identity, and your relationships ALL AT ONCE. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of changes your body is going through right now, this is your gentle reminder: You are not crazy, you are not failing, and you are definitely not alone. Let’s break the silence. What’s the one symptom or life change that caught you completely off guard? 👇I'll start... my answer in the comments below.

It's been sometime since I've introduced myself. For those new to this page, my name is Jennifer Maklan. I'm a licensed massage therapist in the state of Tennessee. I'm also an Ayurvedic Practitioner trained in clinical Ayurveda as it's practiced in India. In my late 20s, I was struggling with panic attacks and anxiety, and I didn't want to take pharmaceuticals. I tried many things. What worked was Ayurveda and some incredible Ayurvedic oil therapies that made me feel like a completely new person. I was fascinated with the simple Ayurvedic concepts I learned. It set me on a journey that I just have not been able to veer away from. I developed a directory website for Ayurveda practitioners with a page exceeding 10k followers. I sold both to a company in India. I worked for that company for 7 years here in the U.S., as their head of U.S. Operations, managing their warehouse amongst other things. With friends and family facing their own health challenges, and with this insider look I had at Ayurveda as it was practiced in India, I decided to study it formally. I started seeing clients in 2019 and in 2022 officially incorporated Chattanooga Ayurveda in the state of Tennessee. To better describe the needs of the clients I serve, Chattanooga Ayurveda evolved to Perimenopause Massage Therapy & Ayurveda in 2024. Today, we are located inside Ashara at 842 S. Germantown Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37412. It's a beautiful, comfortable space with ample seating, a back porch, garden area, and event space. Clients can utilize the steam cabinet, shower, and amenities, to fully enjoy their Ayurveda experience here. If you have questions or interest, I offer a Free 30-Min Consultation. It's quiet here inside Ashara today, home of Perimenopause Massage Therapy & Ayurveda. Perhaps that's because today is Juneteenth, the day we celebrate the emancipation of the last enslaved people in Texas. This emancipation was not too long ago and the experience, like all historical experiences, lives in the DNA of their descendants.

In Ayurveda, we consider health history, cultural influences, and what we call 'satmya' or acclimated lifestyle, as part of your health experience. Everything is tailored to you.

Today, just a few Ayurveda clients have trickled in. One came in to pick up her herbs for the month. Two others, both males, visited for very specific concerns. One came for a regular abdominal massage with local steam application, called 'nadi sved', pronounced like 'swayed', for gut health.

Another received a soothing head massage with balaguluchyadi tailam, a wonderful head massage oil, to calm the mind. This second client, with additional complaints of sharp pain in his deltoid, also received a topical herbal paste application of jatamayadi churnam, to help calm the inflammatory pain response.

Everything is personalized here according to your experience of life. [Pic of an Indian-style Ayurvedic massage table for visual interest.] Come visit for a Free 30-Min Consultation. Book here: https://perimenopausemassageayurveda.com/book

This week, a client with chronic nocturnal bruxism (grinding the teeth nightly) experienced immediate relief with shirodhara, an Ayurvedic oil therapy where warm herbal oil flows in a continuous stream over the forehead. This therapy deeply relaxed the temporalis muscles which play an important role in jaw movement. Typically unable to relax her jaw while sleeping, this client laid on the massage table with her mouth open during the entire treatment. She was thrilled with the results she experienced. https://perimenopausemassageayurveda.com/shirodhara
