Scenic day trips from Chattanooga (Part 2) 🚗 Starting a series of day trips to take in every direction away from the city! 📍Northeast AL is only a ~50 minute drive southwest of Chattanooga and a great day trip area because it’s surrounded by beautiful waterfalls, deep canyons, scenic views and quaint, small towns. 📌Tips for visiting: - The fastest route is to take I-59 down but for a more scenic, longer route you can take Lookout Mountain Parkway all the way! — Waterfalls may not be flowing well in summer through fall due to lack of rain - #LeaveNoTrace by packing out your trash and leaving minimal impacts on the land

Thankfully many areas are wildly accessible and popular, having proper facilities + amenities for access. 🌼 Explore Mentone, AL - The first point of interest is this welcoming mountain village. Stop at the Brow Park or hit up one of the most popular dining options - the Wildflower Cafe 😋 🥾Just past Mentone is Desoto State Park, an AL State Park which boasts an over 100ft waterfall. FYI- The Desoto Falls Picnic Area has a $4 fee to access the top of the falls. However you can hike and swim at the base of the falls for free! Check AllTrails for a hiking route that suits your ability level. 🚗 If you road trip about 30 minutes from Desoto State Park, you can access a National Preserve called Little River Canyon which is overseen by the NPS. One of our favorite things to do is the Canyon Rim Parkway drive, especially in the fall 😍 ☕️ Head into Fort Payne, AL from here and check out the small town. It is one of the South’s most popular attractions for families! 🚗 Address: 1400 Patten Road, Lookout Mountain, GA 30750 ⛰️ There is a lot to explore - a beautiful 4100ft walking path, massive rock formations, a large man made waterfall, 200ft swinging bridge, unique gardens, fairyland caverns, and you can see 7 states here! 🌿 They have some great new seasonal offerings for summer including: - Brand new art featuring Red String sculpture 🧶 & Standing Stones Garden with native plants 🌼 - Seasonal food offerings like free popcorn at the Hearth, and huge BBQ burgers at Big Rock Grill - Animal educational shows daily with Reflection Riding Nature Center and Wings to Soar. Scenic day trips from Chattanooga (Part 1) 🚗 Starting a series of day trips to take in every direction away from the city! 📍Sewanee, TN is only a 1 hour drive west of Chattanooga and a perfect place to take a day trip because it’s surrounded by state parks, forests, bluffs, and has a very unique town! 📌Tips for visiting: 🥾 check the AllTrails app for finding a trail that suits your ability level & interests - #LeaveNoTrace by packing out your trash and leaving minimal impacts on the land - this is a small town of around 2500 people, be considerate of others when visiting 💙 
📚Sewanee is home to the University of the South — one of the country’s top liberal arts schools and it has such cool architecture surrounding the campus ✝️ the Sewanee Memorial Cross is a ~60ft tall cross on the campus of University of the South. the cross was built in 1922 in honor of war veterans and has a beautiful overlook nearby 🍕🥪 check out the Mountain Goat Market (10 minutes from Sewanee) after a hike for a really cool vibey restaurant with sandwiches, pizza, salads…. oh and amazing desserts! 😋☕️ We also love Blue Chair Bakery for breakfast + taking a short drive over to High Point Restaurant for an incredible steak dinner 🐶 This is a very dog friendly area Have you been to Sewanee, Tennessee?
