Confession: I thought my eyeliner tattoo had disappeared. 😂

Turns out, it didn’t.

I had my eyeliner tattooed 25 years ago, and because I don’t wear makeup, I’ve always loved having it. It gave my eyes a little definition without having to think about it.

Over time, though, my upper eyelid skin gradually covered it up. After my blepharoplasty, I suddenly realized what was missing—not my eyelids… my eyeliner!

It’s the exact thing patients tell me all the time: “I can’t even see my makeup anymore.”

Now I get it.

As a plastic surgeon, blepharoplasty has always been one of my favorite procedures. The eyes are one of the most beautiful and expressive parts of the face. They’re where we look first. They communicate joy, kindness, curiosity, love, and sometimes even our fatigue before we say a single word.

For years, I understood this from the surgeon’s perspective. Now I understand it from the patient’s perspective, too.

Once my eyes were more open, I wanted that little bit of definition back. A visit to the talented Robin Hays, and my eyeliner is back where it belongs. ✨

Turns out the blepharoplasty didn’t just uncover my eyes—it uncovered my lack of eyeliner, too. And now I finally understand that little spark of happiness patients describe when they look in the mirror and love how their eyes—and yes, even their makeup—look again.
