*Happy Heavenly Birthday Philip and Happy Founders Day to Love Without Reason - July 27*

Today would have been Philip Mathews 26th birthday. He lived for 19 years before he decided to go home to be with His Lord. Philip inspired us to start Love Without Reason, so that we could help many children and adults with cleft lip and palate surgeries and also fight human trafficking. You see Philip was born with many craniofacial anomalies. He went through 25 surgeries in his life time.

While on earth Philip wanted us to help one child with a cleft. God took our tears and transformed it into joy for thousands around the world. As his parents, Susan and I just wanted to share that journey with all of you.

In 2019, Philip went home, but his legacy lives on. His dream and his wish was for us to fight 'Until The World Is Cleft-Free' and Until There Are No More Sold.'

During the Love Without Reason cleft missions, the pediatric recovery room used to be the one place I avoided after Philip went home to heaven. I could not bear the sound of the monitors. The concerned looks. The anxious gasps for breath.

The recovery room can feel tense when children are waking up from cleft surgery. I remember those moments so vividly with Philip.

But healing of a broken heart doesn’t move by a clock. It has its own rhythm. And slowly, gently… healing is happening in me.

In Garissa last week, I stood in that recovery room with 10-year-old Abdhiwali. He was one of the final cleft lip patients of the mission.

And I stood there — not in panic.
Not in tears.
But with hope.

That may not seem like a big deal to you.
But for me, it was victory.

I will celebrate the small victories — because they are giant steps forward.

And Abdhiwali… young man, you are going to change the world.
Because you have already changed mine.
