Do you know what to look for when you lose an extension? 🧐

Properly bonded extensions should last until the natural lash sheds. You want to see both falling together, rather than just the extension by itself.

Lashes go through several growth stages.
During the later stages they detach from the follicle as new lashes start to grow underneath. 🌱
It’s normal to lose between 2-5 natural lashes per day on average.

Lash artists are imperfect humans 😇 & may not get every single lash perfectly bonded… but that is the goal!

You may occasionally see an extension or so fall without the natural lash but if that’s all you’re seeing, that means there’s a bigger problem & we want to know so we can correct it for you!

One of the biggest lash extension fears people mention to me is that they don’t want “caterpillar” 🐛 or “spidery” 🕷️ lashes.

Because lashes come in different diameters, lengths, colors & curls they’re completely customizable to each person.

Extensions can be long or short, dense or natural.

I love this set because it really shows how truly natural lash extensions can be!

On this set I used a mixture of light brown & dark brown extensions that were no longer than his natural lashes. I used an average curl (v. dramatic curl) and used a “wet effect” technique that adds just a little bit of density.

The last picture shows the lightness of his natural lashes compared to the extensions, yet the final set still looks totally natural on him.

Heard a lot about volume lashes but not sure what it all means? Here are some details 👇

Volume lash sets use “fans” (pictured here) made up of 2 or more fibers to create a dense, fluffy effect.

Volume is the biggest, broadest category and can be broken down further into:
🖤 Mega Volume
🖤 Russian Volume
🖤 American Volume

This picture shows handmade Russian volume fans on the left & handmade American volume fans on the right.

As you can see, Russian volume will create a more uniform look where as American creates a fluffier look.

Everything you see at Lash Folk follows the Russian standard and is totally customizable from quite natural to dark and dense.

I’m Laura, owner, lash artist, and trainer of Lash Folk in downtown Chattanooga.

I started my cosmetology career as my backup plan 😄 but over a decade later I’m so glad I got started.
I have been lashing exclusively for almost 8 years. When I took my first lash training I knew instantly that lashing is where I wanted spend the rest of my beauty industry career.

I moved to Chattanooga in April of 2021 and opened my downtown artistry & education studio in July.

I am trained in both classic & volume applications as well as retention science and Russian volume.
I specialize in natural and ultra natural lash extensions but love dense sets too!

Overall my focus is to create non-damaging lash sets that look great and last from fill to fill because I know your time is valuable and the whole reason anyone gets lashes in the first place is so they don’t have to worry about putting on makeup!

I also teach lash artists how to create sets that look great and last through my 1:1 training: uncommon artistry
& my mini training: the glueprint.

When I’m not lashing or training I’m probably outside enjoying nature or drinking coffee or both 😆

How long do I have to wait before getting my lash extensions wet? Not long at all!! 🥰

There used to be and still are so many myths about this. At the start of the industry, a big education movement told us we had to wait 24-48 hours before our clients could get their lashes wet. However, this is false. ❌

Cleansing those lashes is a given and you do not have to wait 24 hours before taking a shower and getting them wet. The compounds in the adhesives cure within seconds. This is a significant difference from what was previously thought. Even then, everything about the lash industry was so new that no one really had all the answers. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Another important factor is that increasing humidity 💧 when in the studio means curing the lashes faster. And who doesn't love that? ✨

So no worries about getting those beautiful new lashes wet after your set or refill. You can go about your day with not one, but two fewer things to worry about. No more mascara and no lash mishaps. 👏
