Weight removal and shape are KEY when working with high density, thick hair - especially if you want to bring out natural texture thatโ€™s hidden by long, heavy length.

I cut โ€™s hair maybe 2x a year using a combination of razor and my to give her the best possible grow out.

Cleansed with New Wash Rich for hydration and texture support. Diffused and hand styled with just a little bit of Hair Balm for that perfect lived-in finish. ๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿปโœจ

Thatโ€™s what I love most about working WITH a clientโ€™s natural texture, not against it. This client selfie is of day 2, slept on, lived-in hair.

Razor cut and hand styled (no hot tools used) and diffused with Undressed + Balm by yours truly. โœจ

Hereโ€™s a late night oldie but goodie for yโ€™all because Iโ€™m feeling a tad bit nostalgic. ๐Ÿฅฒโœจ

I was talking to my ๐Ÿฆ„ client Kira the other day about how transformational haircuts can be and how the right shape can justโ€ฆ make you feel like the most authentic version of yourself.

And then that version of you just continues to evolve and grow and change and shift more and more over time into something completely new - and that is just fu***ng BEAUTIFUL to me.

Iโ€™m here for the journey, yโ€™all. Itโ€™s honestly my favorite part of what I do. โœจ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿฆ‹๐ŸŒˆโœจ

I want to take a moment to appreciate the middle point with yโ€™all.

Not the beginning.

Not the end.

The middle.

Thereโ€™s not enough credit given to the point in our journeys where all the real work and change happens. We are a society obsessed with instant gratification and only seeing the difference between the โ€œbeforeโ€ and โ€œafter.โ€ We donโ€™t care enough about the process, or pausing to find satisfaction and fulfillment in that middle work, because letโ€™s face it - itโ€™s usually the least glamorous part, right? As humans we are hard wired to avoid discomfort, even when itโ€™s to our own detriment.

This stage is honestly where I tend to operate from most of the time, because Iโ€™m constantly working to build something with an end goal in mind, often without stopping to appreciate how beautiful the process of creating can be. What Iโ€™ve come to realize is that growth can only happen when you embrace the unknown and lean into that discomfort.

And that discomfort is usually so, so worth it in the end.

My client is a stunning example of this. Sheโ€™s never worn her hair this short as an adult or had curly bangs before, so this was definitely a little outside of her comfort zone, but we took the plunge and worked together to create this bold new shape.

I took this picture post dry cut, so this was the middle part of our service before we washed and styledโ€ฆ and I think itโ€™s just so beautiful.

Iโ€™ll be sharing the before and after images at some point soon, but for now I just want to honor that transformative moment there in the middle. โœจ

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate what an absolute ๐Ÿฆ„๐Ÿฆ„๐Ÿฆ„ of a human is, both inside and out?

Yโ€™all know client selfies MAKE MY DAY, and this one is no differentโ€ฆ Itโ€™s so good I had to share it twice ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ™ˆ.

I just love seeing how my clients are living in their hair out in the wild vs. how you leave my chair, and itโ€™s just the best feeling. ๐Ÿฅฐ

I donโ€™t offer color anymore (sorry, yโ€™all) but Marta is one of the few I just canโ€™t quit, and Iโ€™m pretty proud of this blonde, yโ€™all. โœจ

Iโ€™ve been putting this post off for awhile because honestly life has just been pretty overwhelming. If youโ€™ve seen any of my recent stories, youโ€™ll know that covid finally managed to weasel its way into our home, despite taking every precaution - so I have a bit of extra time on my hands to reflect while we wait this thing out.

My birthday is on New Yearโ€™s day, so Iโ€™ve always been very attuned with every passing year and how it correlates with the different chapters of my life. I turned 30 on 1/1/2020, and yโ€™all know how that year turned outโ€ฆ ๐Ÿฅด And 31 was honestly even MORE of a challenge than 30 was in 2020, but a lot of beautiful things came out of the struggle. In 2021, I became a business owner for the first time and started with , and it wasโ€ฆ an absolute whirlwind. A beautiful, insane, rollercoaster whirlwind. And now that my 32nd year is here, Iโ€™m starting to truly understand the benefit of taking things day by day. I can only do what I can do, and Iโ€™m grateful for that.

There is about a weekโ€™s difference between when these two photos were taken. The first is when I was on top of the world after a WONDERFUL day at work where I felt so aligned in my business and proud of what Iโ€™d built, and then the later one is after our house got hit with covid (my son brought it home from school) and I hit a real low point. I was filled with so much uncertainty and doubt over 3/4 of my household testing positive and being symptomatic, and worrying about whether or not weโ€™d exposed my medically fragile sister in the process. (Luckily, it looks like we did not!
Sheโ€™s been fine, thankfully. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป)

Itโ€™s just beenโ€ฆ a lot. Going on 3 years of pandemic parenting is A LOT and Iโ€™ll fight anyone who says otherwise. ๐ŸฅŠ๐ŸฅŠ

But we are here, and Iโ€™m grateful for that. I am grateful for how easy we got off compared to so many others. And I am fu***ng frustrated as hell that we are still living in this as a daily reality.

Soโ€ฆ hereโ€™s a real big hug from me. โค๏ธ And a thank you to all of you that have done your part to help end this s**t show dumpster fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ—‘

And hereโ€™s a toast to 32.

May you not be as s**tty, 2022.

Please dear god please. ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿฅ‚

(Read to the end for some exciting news! ๐Ÿฅณ)

If Iโ€™ve learned anything in all my years in the hair industry, itโ€™s this.

Embrace your texture, whatever it is! Straight, curly, coily, wavy - ALL of it is beautiful and unique in its own way.

Itโ€™s truly such an empowering journey to get to know and love your hair in all its perfectly imperfect shapes and forms.

But how do you make the most of your natural texture in a way that is low maintenance and achievable in your day to day life?

For clients - this looks like investing in a stylist who can help you find the best haircut + routine for your unique texture and lifestyle. Which, letโ€™s face, during our busy day to day lives shouldnโ€™t add up to a whole lot of fuss! Finding the right approach for your hair can take a little trial and error, but having a knowledgeable stylist to guide you can make all the difference.

For hairdressers - this looks like finding an educator that prioritizes longevity in their haircut curriculum. Itโ€™s essential to find someone that teaches you how to share proper at home care and easy styling routines with your clients so they can love their hair every day and not just when they leave the salon!

Creating haircuts that grow out well is a skill, and so is knowing how to cut shapes that flatter every texture and lifestyle.
