You don’t need to memorize 100 different exercises to build a good workout.
Learn to think in movements, not exercises.
For a simple full-body workout, start with:
• Upper-body push
• Upper-body pull
• Lower-body push
• Lower-body pull
Then, once you’ve covered those, you have plenty of room for the exercises you enjoy or the areas you want to focus on.
The exercise can change based on your equipment, experience, goals, or preferences.
The movement pattern is what matters.
The goal isn’t to find the “perfect” exercise.
It’s to understand what your body needs to train so you can walk into almost any gym and know what to do.
Push. Pull. Push. Pull. Then make it your own.

My 20s were a lot more about how my body looked. My 30s have become much more about what my body can do. I still enjoy lifting. I still care about how I look. But aesthetics aren’t the only reason I train anymore. Strength. Stability. Mobility. Balance. Energy. Being able to move well and feel good doing it. The gym shouldn’t just make you feel good while you’re there. It should help you feel better out in the real world. Carrying things. Playing with your kids. Traveling. Getting off the floor. Running. Hiking. Just being able to move through life without your body constantly feeling like it’s fighting against you. The older I get, the bigger my WHY for training becomes. Fitness should add to your life—not consume it.

If I woke up tomorrow with 50+ pounds to lose, I wouldn’t try to completely overhaul my life overnight.

I’d break it down into 3 buckets:

1. Nutrition — create a calorie deficit while making food easier to manage.

2. Activity — focus on what I’m doing outside of my workouts and gradually increase my daily movement.

3. Resistance training — build strength and maintain muscle with a simple full-body approach.

And I’d give myself 12 months, not 12 weeks.
The goal wouldn’t be to find the perfect diet or workout.
It would be to build habits I can actually repeat long enough to change my body—and eventually maintain those changes.
You don’t need to do everything tomorrow.
You need to know what to work on first.

One thing that changed my mind about training:
I used to think the goal was to find the most “optimized” training split.

Now I think a better question is: how well does this program hold up when real life gets in the way?

A 4-day upper/lower split can work incredibly well.

But if you can only realistically train 3 days most weeks, or you regularly miss workouts because of work, travel, family, etc., a full-body approach can give you a little more flexibility.

You’re not trying to build the perfect program for your best week.

You’re trying to build something that works for your real life.

Fitness should add to your life, not require your life to revolve around it.

I’ve always been a big fan of full-body workouts.

Not because they’re necessarily “better” than a split, but because they fit really well into an actual life.

You don’t need to be in the gym 5–6 days a week to make progress. If you can train 2–4 days consistently, a well-designed full-body workout can cover a LOT.

And honestly, the flexibility is probably my favorite part.

Have a crazy week and only make it in twice? Cool. You can still get two productive sessions in without feeling like you missed half your training.

For me, that’s what fitness should look like.

Something that supports your life — not something that requires your life to revolve around it.

So here’s a full-body workout you can knock out in under 50 minutes.

Get in. Do the work. Get a little stronger.

Then go live your life.

Fat loss doesn’t always mean taking more food away.

Calories matter, but so does how much energy you’re using throughout the day.

Instead of immediately asking, “What can I eat less of?”, consider what you can add:

• More daily steps
• Strength training
• Regular walks
• More movement throughout your workday
You still need an appropriate calorie deficit to lose body fat. But that deficit doesn’t necessarily have to come entirely from eating less and less.
Sometimes the better question is: “What can I add?”

If your hips and quads always feel tight, the couch stretch is one worth learning.
It targets the hip flexors and quads, which can get pretty stiff when you spend a lot of time sitting.
The key is not forcing yourself into the deepest position possible.
Keep your ribs down, squeeze the glute on the side you’re stretching, and ease into the position until you feel a strong but manageable stretch through the front of the hip and thigh.
Start with 30–60 seconds per side and build from there.
You don’t need to spend 30 minutes stretching every day.
A few minutes of intentional mobility work, done consistently, can go a long way toward helping you move and feel better.
Save this one and give it a try next time you’re feeling stiff..

Only have 3 days a week to work out?
You don’t need to cram a 5-day program into those 3 days.
A well-designed full-body program can cover everything you need:
Squat/lunge → quads + glutes
Hinge → hamstrings + posterior chain
Push → chest + shoulders + triceps
Pull → back + biceps
Core → when you have the time
The important part isn’t having endless exercise variety.
It’s getting stronger and better at the movements you’re already doing.
Rotate exercises when it makes sense, use different rep ranges, and progressively add weight or reps over time.
Three productive workouts every week will beat the “perfect” 5-day program that you can only follow occasionally.
Build your training around your life—not the other way around.
