Your hair is growing.

But if your ends are breaking at the same rate… you’ll never see that growth.

Length retention > just growth.

This is why trims, gentle handling, and a consistent routine matter more than any product you can buy.

Most people don’t have a growth problem.
They have a breakage problem.

Coming in for a trim and realizing you may actually need a real haircut can feel shocking. Most clients haven’t seen the back of their hair in a blown-out state the way a stylist does. As a stylist, once you put on a white cape and show them with a camera, it can bring a lot of clarity without needing a long, convincing conversation.

For some clients, seeing it is enough. For others, they need a little more time to process and that’s okay.

As stylists, it’s easy for us to say, “just cut it, it’ll grow back.” But for some clients, it’s deeper than that. There can be emotional attachment, history, or simply the need to feel in control of the decision.

Yes, leaving damage can affect the outcome and longevity of the style but removing everything in that moment isn’t life or death. When you clearly explain what keeping the damage means, you give the client the ability to make an informed decision.

You also build trust by giving the client some control over what’s happening with their hair and clearly communicating the options they have and what each choice means for their results.

Sometimes it’s not about convincing them, it’s about giving them the space to understand. And when they do, the decision becomes much easier for them to make.

Sometimes the issue isn’t your products.
It isn’t your routine.
And it isn’t your technique.

I had a client who was doing everything right.

She was:
• Shampooing weekly
• Steaming her hair
• Trimming every 3 months
• Wearing protective styles
• Even using distilled water because of hard water

But her hair still felt dry and wasn’t responding the way we expected.

After talking through her routine several times, I suggested she get her vitamin levels checked.

She came back with results showing she was low in iron, vitamin D, B12, and was anemic.

Hair can sometimes be the first place your body shows signs that something internally is off.

As hairstylists, we don’t diagnose health conditions — but we do pay attention to patterns.

Now that she knows what’s going on internally, she can work with her doctor on a plan while we continue supporting her hair from the outside.

Sometimes healthy hair is about:
• what you put on your hair
• what you put in your body
• and what your body is able to absorb

Hair care and health are more connected than people realize.

One thing I always clarify with my clients: not all heat damage is the same.

And no, every situation can’t be fixed with just the “right” product.

When we say heat damage, we’re usually talking about one of two things:

• The strand has been weakened internally
• The curl pattern has been permanently altered

Those require two completely different approaches.

Products like K18 and Olaplex are incredible when the hair is structurally weak. They help strengthen, support elasticity, and reduce breakage.

But they can’t recreate a curl pattern that’s been permanently changed by excessive heat.

My job isn’t to promise miracles.
It’s to properly assess what’s actually happening and guide you toward the healthiest long-term decision. That can be strengthening treatments, adjusting your heat routine, or trimming what can’t be restored.

Education protects your length.
Honesty protects your expectations.

And healthy hair requires both.

I have the best of the best. Cream of the crop. Top 2 and not 2. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart. When I question my judgement or my mind tries to toy with the idea that I don’t make good choices, I remember who I chose as a spouse. I made the BEST choice. I did a damn good job, but I won’t take all the credit. I’m not huge into the stars aligning or love at first sight, but I do know God. He really made sumn shake for me by gifting me one of His greatest.
