In a world that often imposes narrow standards of beauty and societal norms, it is essential to empower young girls, particularly those from marginalized communities, to embrace their cultural heritage and develop self-confidence.


Black & Beautiful Braiders is a transformative initiative that not only celebrates the art of hair-braiding but also exposes young girls to sisterhood while encouraging young girls to braid each other’s hair. By combining cultural pride and confidence building, this initiative seeks to equip young black girls with the necessary tools to embrace their identity, pursue their dreams and make meaningful contributions to their communities.


Black & Beautiful Braiders inspires and releases the brilliance of young black girls ages 13 – 15 on the southside of Chicago through a six-session series:


Session 1: Cornrows I Sunday, December 3rd 9am – 12pm
Session 2: Cornrows II Sunday, December 10th 9am – 12pm
Session 3: Sanitation (Shampooing & Blowdrying) and Feedins I Sunday, December 17th 9am – 12pm
Session 4: Feedins II Sunday, January 7th 9am – 12pm
Session 5: Knotless I Sunday, January 14th 9am – 12pm
Session 6: Knowless II Sunday, January 21st 9am – 12pm

Black & Beautiful Braiders REQUIREMENTS

• Must be between the ages of 13 and 15 on December 3, 2023 (First Session)
• Must be able to attend all 6 sessions, the first three (3) Sundays of December 2023 and January 2024 and stay the entire session 9am – 12pm
• Must adhere to a strict attendance policy which includes no absences, no tardiness and no early dismissals
• STRONG consideration will be given to prospective participants within the immediate location of the salon(s)
