Let me preface by saying, I am in no way taking anything from todays generation of up and coming stylists. Y’all are talented for sure. But there is something to be said about the ones that have paved the way. The no social media, sit in the salon for hours to build your clientele without Instagram, just purely word of mouth referral stylists that came out of school hungry and ready. There is something to be said about a basic foil. There is something to be said about a precision haircut. And a fresh blowout with a round brush. No tricks. No special light ring. No fancy product, only the staples. No filters or photoshop. Just your clients natural hair, shining like a piece of silk on a corn cob. This. This is why I love what I do. When all the trends come and go. I got the sauce, baby. Consistency. Educated. Passionate. Driven. Hard working. I make mistakes. But I own them. I show up. Even when I’m not 💯. The last few years, I’ve really been feeling irrelevant in this industry and then I look at my work and think, no baby girl, you are a seasoned veteran. You have skills that not everyone possess. Can you fingerwave, cornrow, blowout curly hair silky smooth? Perms? A pixie cut. A fade. What about a roller set? Hmmmmm……or just a basic good ass scrubbing in the shampoo chair? See, the ones that have been in this industry for 20+ years, we take the time to learn the new trends to keep us in the mix, but when those trends go, and they will!!!!!! Do you have what it takes to keep elevating? I can’t stop thinking about how I can grow my business and I’m at a loss right now, so what I do know, is good old fashioned hard work and skills. And I’m still hungry 26 years later. So until I figure that out, I’ll just keep doing what I do, a master of my craft and just for the love of it.

One of the most beautiful gifts in the world, is the gift of service. Service comes in many forms. I have been blessed with the ability to serve by helping women find confidence. There are so many times in my career that I felt I wasn’t doing anything important with my life. It’s days like this, that I remember why I was chosen for this career. I say chosen, because I absolutely feel like I was meant to do exactly what I am doing! Making young ladies feel confident from the beginning is so important. Of course for any woman, this is equally paramount! But knowing I get to give a child their first experience in a salon, where I make sure they feel like a princess, is pretty freaking awesome. It touches my soul on an ultimate level! Even more touching, is that my friends chose ME to be that person for their lovely young lady! I am grateful for all of the people that choose to sit in my chair day in and day out, helping me fulfill my calling, while living my dream!❤️

I’m not the best stylist in the game, but I work hard. I’m not the most educated in my field, but I’m constantly learning. I don’t have it all together, but I have plans. Big things in my pocket. I will make my life everything I’ve ever wanted, one client at a time. My gift is to make people look beautiful but more importantly FEEL better. To empower women through my experiences and touch them with my craft, but what no one knows is that each and every one of my clients breathe life into me every day. On some of my darkest days over the last 25 years, it’s y’all who touch my soul!!! This is why I will succeed. My heart bleeds for this career and for my clients. I will do anything to make them happy. Day in and day out. And sometimes I fail. Or things don’t turn out how I see them in my head, but I ALWAYS make it right! I will never stop reaching for my vision. Thank you to ALL of you that continue to drive to see me and spend time with me. There isn’t a night a lay down and am not grateful for it!🙌🏻❤️

Spent some time with this beauty today polishing up on my textured hair skills and learning some more natural styles! I can’t wait to get my hands in there and apply my new skill set to my clients. Every 3 months when I gotta give myself a Brazilian Blowout, I completely dread it. It’s soooo much work. And, I do it in between clients to give my arms a break………but when it’s done, 😍MG!!!! The shine. The sleekness. And how light my hair feels. No more Lion mane when I walk outside. Until next time! Totally worth it. Side note: I’d pay someone WHATEVER they charge to not have to do this on my own hair!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anddddd I can’t stress this enough. The HARDEST part of being a stylist is explaining this to literally everyone. For some reason, when people are disappointed they didn’t get platinum hair from day 1, they simply do not believe that you’re experience and education are correct. Instead, you failed them and they go seek out another stylist. Now you have a responsibility as the “other” stylist to EDUCATE this client that the prior stylist was correct. Unless you are the type of professional that thrives on putting others down. I’ve experienced both sides of this. It’s also exhausting to love what you do, provide a service, and then let someone down when you have done everything right!!!! I refuse to melt off your hair. I pride myself on healthy, beautiful locks and will continue to educate my clients along the way! 🌈The More You Know🌈
