Happy Fall Back!

I am planning to have a very-very-very scaled-down Etsy shop and/or BigCartel shop up sometime soon (next week?), listing small batches of bar soap and liquid soap.

It sort of depends on how busy my full-ish time job keeps me this month and next on what else I plan to offer. It also depends on demand.

Gift boxes? Maybe, but I'm not certain. We'll see...

I can't offer you smell-o-vision, but I can temporarily reopen my Etsy shop for those of you wanting a bottle or three of our all natural JITTERBUG . Apparently, it was recommended on Reddit and I've been hit up by a handful of people.

Comment below if you would be interested, and I will open, and make those listings available. I would take orders this week, and fill them next weekend.

If you ordered a small batch (or multiple...) before I went on break, please note some are curing and some are waiting to be made. I had to recently buy another bottle of patchouli oil to complete some of them.

The supply chain has gotten dicey, and the oil I've used has actually quadrupled in price. There are four oils I have worked with — a very FINE oil sourced in India (too exceptional for soapmaking purposes), two dark oils (one is a little lighter) from Indonesia, and a more affordable oil from China (which I don't really like...).

I've used the two Indonesian oils together. When the tariffs kicked in their prices went up considerably. And then they went up again. And the more affordable of those two vanished from inventory, and fortunately, my supplier sold me the more expensive of the two for the same price as the other. Still, there was sticker shock.

The cheaper China-sourced oil — I could use it. But while it smells okay out of the bottle, it does not react well in soap — I'm not sure if it's an issue of the pH or that it doesn't like the green clay, calendula, rosemary, etc., in that formula. I won't bore you with the time I threw out 60 bars of patchouli bar soap (and 60 guest sized bars, too...).

Anyway, between the delays and the increased cure time due to humidity, things are a tad behind. But things will get out!

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday. I'll be in vacation mode sometime Sunday. Not sure when, maybe before making dinner, maybe before going to bed, maybe as soon as I wake up. Not sure.

Bar soap small batches and half-gallons of liquid soap (I've received orders for both) will be made starting this weekend. A reminder, bar soap will need at least a month to cure, especially now as it's gotten warmer and more humid. (Hello, rain...)

A quick note to say my essential oil prices have skyrocketed.

I went to buy patchouli for the next round of small-batch production, and one of my suppliers' patchouli has quadrupled, and the other has doubled.

There's a cheaper patchouli available from one of my suppliers that has stayed the same (probably because they don't sell a lot of it and it is inventory that has been around for a while).

I will mull over what to buy to cover these orders — and to cover gift sets for the fall. Then that might be it for EOs for soap once I run out of my inventory and after I come to my senses after the holidays.

Perfumes and sprays I can handle, as the margins make sense. But with bar soap — I can't justify it if the costs remain this high.

Hello, ! I just received materials to get several orders of Jitterbug made and out the door. If you are interested in snagging a bottle or two or three, in 8oz or 2oz bottles, order immediately if not sooner. For the 8oz sprays, I will likely need to order additional mini-trigger sprayers, but, fortunately, I have an Ohio vendor with fast turnaround time.

I'll be making Jitterbug tomorrow afternoon, getting out my next "wave" of current Etsy & Big Cartel orders, and planning for small-batch production this weekend. Those who have ordered half-gallons of liquid, those will go out tomorrow as well (I had to get larger boxes because some of ya went big...no complaints).

A reminder: In two weeks, I am going on summer break. Well, not entirely a break-break. I'll be focused on my "day job" and maintaining a schedule so I can garden and enjoy life a bit.

I PLAN to reopen my Etsy and Big Cartel shops in NOVEMBER. And when I do, the listings will be consist of bundles and gift sets, NOT individual items. Then, I'll likely close after Christmas, and perhaps do the same thing for Valentine's Day, etc.
