I walk into the coffee shop, the scent of espresso filling the air, and there she is—my younger self. She looks up, eyes wide with ambition, clutching a notebook full of big dreams and even bigger uncertainties.

She doesn’t recognize me at first, but I smile, knowing what she’s about to build. “Mind if I join you?” I ask, sliding into the seat across from her.

She’s eager, passionate, and a little impatient. She wants to know if she makes it, if the sacrifices are worth it. I stir my coffee and laugh softly, because I remember that feeling all too well.

“You do more than make it,” I assure her. “You build something beautiful. A salon that’s been around 21 years—one that becomes a home for not just you, but for so many others. You learn more than you ever thought possible, and yes, some lessons come the hard way. But every challenge, every stumble, makes you stronger, sharper, and more capable than you can even imagine right now.”

She leans in, soaking up every word. I tell her about the love she finds—14 years of marriage to a man who stands by her side through it all. And the doodles, Maverick and Goose, who fill her home with joy and mischief.

She asks about the tough times, the doubts, the failures. I don’t sugarcoat it. “There are days you’ll feel like quitting. Days when the weight of leadership, of responsibility, feels unbearable. But trust me—those moments will pass, and you will rise every single time. You are far stronger than you think.”

She looks relieved, hopeful. “Any advice?” she asks.

I smile. “Trust yourself. Be patient. The right things take time. Don’t be afraid to say no when it’s necessary, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. And most importantly—take time to enjoy it. The success, the journey, the people. It all goes by faster than you think.”

She exhales, like she’s been holding her breath. “I needed to hear that,” she says.

I finish my coffee and stand to leave, but before I go, I look her in the eye and say, “You are going to be so proud of the woman you become.”

And as I walk away, I realize—I am.
