Pasta and lotsa cake …that’s how you celebrate 87! Happy Birthday Dad!

Since several people have messaged me and asked I figured it was time for an update on my dad since he is no longer on social media.
It’s been a crazy ( to say the least) couple months that started out very scary. Most who have reached out know it’s been a tough year or so for our family and it took its toll on my dad this spring and his health started to fail rapidly. We had a couple very frustrating, emotional , months and many decisions had to be made. While we wanted to keep him in his home we unfortunately had to rush him to the hospital back in June/ July and he was in kidney failure. At that time we had just started moving him into assisted living. We worked with hospital staff and hospice for 2 weeks, none of us thinking he was going to leave that hospital! But with a lot of hope, prayers and love and some major support from staff and social workers we moved him back to Bristol Park under their care along with an amazing team from Gateway Hospice we got him eating healthy, gaining some weight, meeting new friends, and participating in some activities.
Frustration turned into loving support and patience ( I actually watched Belt Sander races with him today, don’t even ask 😂) we have been surrounded by the best care, the best guidance, support and love!
Today he finally let me take a picture of his progress (even though I didn’t take any during the tough times) He graduated off of Hospice and we can start taking him off property for some short adventures if he wants to ( aiming for a birthday dinner next month)
He has had a couple of spills but there’s always someone close by to help and he keeps trying! He’s come along way!
Took him his favorite dessert today, Banana Split Cake, so he should be on a sugar high for at least a week!
