Obituary for Joan Gill Barrett
Joan Gill Barrett, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, entered into her eternal home at sunrise on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 surrounded by her loving husband of 58 years, Tommy 'Suds' Barrett and family.
Joan Barrett opened Style & Smile Beauty Salon in 1976 which was the first business located in Shoney's Plaza and at the time one of very few female owned businesses in Cleveland. As styles changed so did her hair salon which she renamed in the 80's to what is now known as Headquarters Beauty Salon. Prior to her retirement in 2002, she was honored to have been appointed by two Governors to serve 14 years on the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology.
Joan Barrett was proceeded in death by her parents, Marvin A. and Dorothy Geren Gill.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Tommy L. Barrett Son Gill (Melissa) Barrett and daughter Anna Jill Barrett all of Cleveland, her loving sisters Mrs. Bruce (Pat) Parton and Mrs. Wendell (Jimmie) Neeley, her Great Aunts Dorothy (Gill) Hubbard, Lucy (Gill) Griffith and Dean (Gill) Ellis, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She loved her 'girls' at the Beauty Shop whom she gave advice, mentored and mothered. Joan was also Blessed with some of the best neighbors in Summerfield.
Joan was a member of the Ladies' Oriental Shrine of North America (Alhambra Lady Shriner), Chestuee Chapter DAR, and an original member of the Southeastern Veterans Home Committee. She was a very proud member of the Bradley High School Class of 1960.
We appreciate Tennessee Oncology, Sarah Cannon Research Institute, Guardian Home Health and Hearth Hospice for their help for taking care of Joan during her illness. A special thank you to Lora Baker (Hearth Hospice) for the care she provided over the last two weeks.
Joan attended Westmore Church of God and Community Hall Church of God.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held Sunday at 4pm at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel with Pastor Jeanne Cissom and Pastor Guinn Green officiating. The interment will follow at Hilcrest Cemetery with Rob McGowan, Steve Markiewicz, Chase Markiewicz, Luke Benton, Parker Benton, and Cliff Neeley serving as pall bearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Sullivan, Keith Barrett, Mike Sullivan, Rick Sullivan, Buster Goins and Brandon Melton. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 4pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of Flowers, you may make a donation in memory of Joan Gill Barrett to the Shriners Hospital for Children located in Cincinnati or charity of your choice.

Today is a very sad day for our Headquarters family. Our beloved Joan Barrett left us today. Our hearts are broken. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. Arrangements will be announced soon.

Our condolences go out to the family of Bobbie Peck Ragsdale, September 22, 1931 - December 14, 2020. For those who remember her being our receptionist at the salon after she retired. She was part of the Headquarters family and our thoughts and prayers are with her daughters and grandchildren.
