At 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 1969, four plainclothes policemen in dark suits, two patrol officers in uniform, Detective Charles Smythe, and Deputy Inspector Seymour Pine arrived at the Stonewall Inn's double doors and announced their presence as police officers at the Stonewall Inn in New York City.

In the 1960’s, it was pretty routine for police to raid q***r spaces and arrest trans folks and drag queens. But on June 28th, the patrons of Stonewall had decided they’d had enough.
It started small. A crowd outside, waiting to be whisked away to the police station started mocking their harassers. Then an officer shoved a person in drag, who responded by hitting him on the head with her purse. The cop clubbed her over the head, as the crowd began to boo. Pennies, then beer bottles, were thrown at the wagon as a rumor spread through the crowd that patrons still inside the bar were being beaten.

The people had had enough, and they started to fight back. “We all had a collective feeling like we'd had enough of this kind of s**t. It wasn't anything tangible anybody said to anyone else, it was just kind of like everything over the years had come to a head on that one particular night in the one particular place and it was not an organized demonstration...” said Michael Fader. Coins, bottles, and rocks were thrown at police. The same police that has assaulted le****ns, and beaten trans people and drag queens countless times before. Accustomed to more passive behaviour, even from larger gay groups, the policemen called for reinforcements and barricaded themselves inside the bar while some 400 people rioted. The police barricade was repeatedly breached, and the bar was set on fire. The riots outside the Stonewall Inn waxed and waned for the next five days.

Stonewall soon became a symbol of resistance to social and political discrimination that would inspire solidarity among homosexual groups for decades. A year later, Brenda Howard, a bisexual woman, and a group of activists held the first Pride parade, that stretched for 15 city blocks at its longest.

Today, the question is asked time and time again. “Why do we even need a Pride month?” The answer is simple.

Because q***r discrimination still exists.
Because q***r people are still 6% more likely to be stopped in a public space by police.
Because q***r people still are 2-4 times more likely to end their own life.
Because q***r youths are still 120 times more likely to experience homelessness.
Because today, we’re at odds with an administration who actively tries to erase us, silence us, and enact violence on us.

Because we’re still fighting.

Happy Pride, y’all 🌈

🌈✨ HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! ✨🌈

This month, we celebrate love in all its beautiful forms, the courage to live authentically, and the incredible strength of the LGBTQIA+ community. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Pride is more than rainbow flags and parades. It’s about honoring those who fought for the rights we have today, supporting those who are still finding their voice, and creating a world where everyone feels safe, seen, valued, and loved exactly as they are. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Whether you’re loud and proud, quietly discovering who you are, supporting a loved one, or simply learning how to be a better ally…you belong here. 🌟

This month, let’s choose kindness over judgment, acceptance over hate, and love over fear. Let’s continue building communities where people can show up as their true selves without apology.

To every person who has ever felt different, misunderstood, or afraid to be who they are:

✨ You are valid.
✨ You are worthy.
✨ You are loved.
✨ You deserve to take up space.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈💖

Drop a 🏳️‍🌈 or 🏳️‍⚧️ in the comments and tell us what Pride means to you!

Memorial Day is not just about remembering the fallen.

It is also about remembering the families they left behind.

The mothers still missing their children.
The spouses learning how to live with loss.
The children growing up without them.
The families carrying grief
through every birthday,
every holiday,
every milestone,
and every ordinary day in between.

Some sacrifices never ended.

Sending love this Memorial Day to
the mothers,
fathers,
spouses,
children,
siblings,
grandparents,
best friends,
military families,
Gold Star families,
and every heart carrying loss.
