Guess who makes Irie Roots? Little ole me. And here is a little glimpse of my journey.
Four and a half years ago on December 13 & 14, 2021 I finally made the decision to loc my hair after wanting to for over 15 years but never having the nerve. It has been a full journey in every way. Personally. Spiritually. Professionally.
I get asked a LOT of questions, so I’m answering some of them right here.
No, I never added extensions. I took the fully natural route.
Yes, I had a whole lot of slippage that first year.
No, I did not like my locs for the first 2 years.
Yes, my hair shrunk tremendously.
No, I am not a sisterloc or any kind of loc technician. Not ever a cosmetologist.
Yes, I love where my hair is now. Mostly. 😅
No, I do not remember how many locs I have. Somewhere in the 500+ range.
No, I do not do yoga or burn sage. But I probably should. And not because I have locs. 🥴
And NO, you cannot touch my hair. For some reason people think locs come with an open invitation to touch and play. That includes Black folks too. It is weird and it is awkward. I will take a personal point of privilege and pop your hand. 🤚🏾
Yes, I want them cut in layers. They are too flat and I am over it. Who can cut them for me?
