Jenn Roelofs, just rolls right off my tongue 😂!
•
Two days before the wedding, I decided to cancel all my appointments and plans—hair, makeup, brunch, everything. I realized that spending time with my friends and family on our wedding day mattered more to me, especially since they had traveled all the way to Michigan to be there for us. I’m so glad I made that choice.
I ended up doing my own makeup, with input from everyone around me—they chimed in with what to add or skip. One of my friends helped touch up my curls, since the hairstyle I had planned wasn’t going to happen thanks to the wind (which, thankfully, calmed down a bit for photos). Honestly, I couldn’t have made a better decision. I had been so worried about not looking like myself on our wedding day, and this way, I felt completely me—and got to soak in some amazing, quality time with my people.

Length is a luxury. Let’s treat it that way.
•
1. Wash Weekly
Use a sulfate-free shampoo once a week. Focus on your scalp and rinse thoroughly.
2. Condition Carefully
Apply conditioner to the ends only—
3. Dry Completely
Always blow-dry the wefts really good. Damp hair can lead to odor or mildew.
4. Moisturize the ends
Hair oil is a must EVERYDAY, sometimes 2x a day!
5. Protect at Night
Wrap your hair in a silk/satin scarf or bonnet. A silk pillowcase works too.
6. Avoid Excess Heat
Use heat protectant when styling. Too much heat = shorter extension life.
7. Don’t Overstay
Remove or refresh your sew-in every 6–8 weeks to avoid damage or matting.

Let’s talk “people-pleasing”…
•
In the beauty industry, people-pleasing can feel like it comes with the job. My work is built around making others feel beautiful, seen, and cared for—and I truly love that. It’s a privilege to be trusted with someone’s appearance, their confidence, and sometimes even their most vulnerable moments. Whether it’s a wedding day, a fresh start, or just a much-needed self-care appointment, I get to play a small role in reminding people of their God-given beauty.
But if I’m honest, sometimes the pressure to constantly make everyone happy goes deeper than just “great service.” It becomes identity. I find myself stretching thin, staying late, overcommitting, avoiding boundaries—all in the name of being “good” at my job. But underneath it, I know it’s a deeper struggle: seeking approval from people more than peace and approval from God.
Scripture reminds me in Galatians 1:10, “Am I now seeking the approval of man or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
That verse convicts and comforts me. It reminds me that I can love people well without losing myself. That God didn’t call me to be perfect—He called me to be faithful. That my identity isn’t rooted in how much I can give or how “pleased” people are, but in who He says I am: chosen, called, and already enough in Christ.
I’m learning to hold space for both things: to serve with excellence, while also setting healthy boundaries. To show up generously, but not from a place of fear or striving. To reflect God’s love in how I treat others—but also in how I care for myself.
People-pleasing can feel good, but peace-keeping with God is better. And as I navigate this industry with open hands and a surrendered heart, I trust that God is using even this work—brushes, beauty, and all—to glorify Him.
