We recently attended the Cremation Association of North America CANA, Annual Convention & Exposition in Minneapolis, joining cemetery leaders, memorial professionals, and industry partners from across the country for the Cremation Innovation experience.

Many of the conversations centered around how cremation continues to reshape the deathcare industry and how families are seeking more personal, meaningful ways to honor life. Building on those discussions, we are hosting a tour at Coldspring® in the coming weeks to continue the conversation and share a closer look at our natural stone design and fabrication capabilities, and how we support the evolving needs of the families and communities we serve.

Our sandblast capabilities have advanced considerably, allowing us to bring customer vision to life through increasingly personalized and detailed work in stone.

This granite memorial, featuring blended white and purple Lithichrome in the wings, reflects that progress. It demonstrates how precision craftsmanship and modern sandblast techniques work together to achieve design intent with greater depth, clarity, and expression.

In 1978, Pat Alexander, part of the third generation Alexander family leadership at Coldspring, traveled to Europe with company engineers to tour granite operations and explore emerging technology in the industry. That experience helped shape an early vision for modernizing and upgrading operations back home.

That same spirit continues today. Our leadership team still looks beyond our own walls, learning from global best practices, advancing technology, and seeking new ways to improve how we operate and serve our customers.

Located in St. Louis, Missouri, the Pillars of the Valley stands as a powerful tribute to the history of Mill Creek Valley, and the people who once called it home.

At the heart of the installation are eight identical hourglass-shaped pedestals, each measuring 15’ x 4’ x 4’, fabricated from our Mesabi Black® granite. Each pedestal holds a textured V-shaped limestone element, symbolizing the passage of time, memory, and preservation of memory.
