People ask me all the time how I got into massage therapy, so I figured I’d finally tell the story.

And yes, that’s Roxie in the picture. She played a much bigger role in this story than she ever realized. ❤️

Massage was never the plan.

I was going to school for Business Management because my dream has always been to open a pit bull rescue. Not just a rescue, though. I want it to help pit bulls, adults, and kids with difficult backgrounds by teaching job and life skills. That dream is still the dream today. Hippy Hands is a big part of how I’m going to get there, but I’ll save that story for another day.

Then I went through a really bad breakup. I dropped out of college, and at one point it was just me, Roxie, my car, and I was living with my cousin trying to figure out what I was going to do next.

My cousin got me a job doing reflexology, and I ended up falling in love with it. I got certified and had so much fun learning everything I could.

The more I learned and the more people I worked on, the more people started telling me I needed to go to massage school. I heard it a lot, but I just kept doing reflexology because I loved it.

Then one day a complete stranger came in.

After our session, she told me she’d been a massage therapist for 15 years. She told me I had something and that I needed to go to massage school.

The crazy part is, I had only given her a foot massage, and somehow I landed in her top 10 massages.

Between hearing it from so many people and then hearing it from a complete stranger, I finally thought… maybe they’re onto something.

So I enrolled in massage school.

Fast forward 10 years, and here I am.

I still love learning. I still love what I do.

The same cousin who got me into reflexology is also the person who helped me come up with the name Hippy Hands. I guess she’s had a pretty big impact on my life.
