Can you color extensions the same way you color normal hair?

No.

Let me explain:

Most professional extensions are pre-colored using fabric-style textile dyes — not traditional salon oxidative color. That process saturates the hair differently than the melanin-based pigment in your natural strands.

Because of that, extensions are often more porous. They absorb quickly, grab unpredictably, and can shift tone faster than you expect. What looks like a subtle gloss on natural hair can turn muddy, overly dark, or uneven on extensions.

They also don’t have a scalp producing natural oils to help protect them. Once they’re over-processed, there’s no “bounce back.”

That’s why we approach extension color with a preservation mindset. We custom blend and tone strategically — and whenever possible, we color your natural hair to meet the extensions, not force the extensions to behave like growing hair.
