Did you know that each hair grows approximately half an inch every month and has the capacity to keep on growing longer and longer for anywhere between three and ten years?

Some of us find that our hair will grow to our waist, while others find that their hair barely grows past their shoulders. Much of this depends on your hair's DNA. But other factors can play a part in how much hair you have and how long it will grow. Wear and tear, stress and general poor health plays a strong part. Damage from heat styling will not slow the growth of the hair, but it can make the ends weaker making it more prone to split. Using a good thermal spray can protect your hair from heat damage, but you must be aware of how "heavy" that product is. It is extremely important to those with fine hair to use a thermal product that does not weigh down the hair. My favorite product recommendations are Aquage Beyond Shine, Beyond Body and Working Spray. These products are light enough for fine, thin hair. A good way to judge the "weight" of a thermal spray is to spray it up into the air. If it stays up and does not drop it is a good choice.

Hair grows from the roots so it is not always possible to see what the problems are. Nourishing your hair is important. The root, or hair follicle, is the incubator of the hair growth and is nourished by our blood supply. Serums, potions and lotions will cosmetically help the hair look and feel better but eating a healthy diet and drinking lot of water will help achieve Shiny Happy Hair. Hair is a complex mix of Keratin (protein) as well as water, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, calcium, iron and two types of lipids. Wow, that sounds so complex, but by replenishing the hair keratin we are able to fill the porosity (holes) in the hair. The most effective way to do this is with a Keratin Therapy Replacement Treatment. This treatment is between $150 to $200 and last between three to six months. A excellent fix for frizzy, porous hair.

Hair does not grow continuously throughout life but in successive cycles. The cycles have three stages; growth, regression and loss. At any point in time around 85% of your hair is in growth phase and 15% is in the loss phase. So there is no need to be alarmed when you see hairs in the bath tub or on your hairbrush. On average we lose up to 100 strands of hair a day - that's just the 15% in the hair loss phase.
