Most people who come in for massage for tight muscles in their neck and shoulders have experienced a physical injury to the head or a rapid acceleration/deceleration event of the body (slipping on ice, sudden fall but the head didn't hit the ground). These types of injuries will often cause strain to the ligaments in the cervical spine and injuries of the nerves connecting the white and grey matter.
