I went into the ER at Penrose st.Francis on Sat March 4th with tiny cut and swollen finger on my left side and a swollen and black and blue tongue I was in the ER for 8 hours and they diagnosed me with onset adult seizures, cellulitis in my left hand and an infection. The sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics and told me to take some Tylenol or ibuprofen. I woke up the next day and my finger was 100 times worse. It was not properly bandaged and cleaned, also I was prescribed the wrong medication. I went back to the ER and another 7 hours later left worst than the way I had come in. The Dr. Lanced my finger in a non sterile way and tried to drain my hand. He just let me sit there after cutting it open with no bandage on or anything. I had a friend with me this time and we were pretty much begging them to let me stay to be monitored and because the pain was excruciating. The infection moved into my palm, top of My hand all the way to my wrist and forearm. They still let me go. Put on a piece of gauze and a piece of tape and sent me home. Finally I went to my Primary care physician on Tuesday morning and she walked in and took one glance at the wound and sent me to the Memorial North ER hospital asap. I was admitted to the hospital as soon as I walked in. My blood pressure was extremely low, and pulse was at a 41, and my white blood cell count was extremely high. They got me into a room right away and started doing Tests right away including a CT scan, EKG,blood tests. They found out I had a severe staph infection in my skin, blood, tissues and tendons. They did an emergency hand surgery to try to drain it. What was supposed to be a 30 minute surgery turned into an hour and a half surgery due to the severity and amount of infection he needed to remove. After surgery the doctor had come out and told my mom he was appalled that the other doctor had let me go, and that I was perscribed the wrong medication. He said I was teetering between life and death, and if I would have not come in to the other ER at memorial when I did I would have not made it. I ended up having to stay in the hospital for 6 days. The surgeon was able too save my finger and hand as of now, I will have to do rehabilitation physical therapy on my finger and hand starting tomorrow hopefully. They also had to place a PICC IV in my right arm to receive the correct antibiotics via the IV infusions. Where I have to gi into a Specialist Doctor of Infectious diseases for an hour every single day to receive my medication thru an IV. Which I could have minimum of 3 weeks to possibly 6 months or more. I now have to take nerve medication because he had to cut all the way to my tendon in my hand, along with some other new meds. I am told not to work, drive, or lift anything. Which sucks to not even be able too lift kenzie because she is too heavy. You know I love doing hair and seeing my clients, it's my passion for sure and at this point I can't even feel 3 of my fingers let alone move them or my hand. This is so devastating to me and my family. If they get this infection in my entire body under control I will be able too start physical therapy. It is all so overwhelming and scary. It freaks Aydin out and kenzie has no idea what to think.... My wonderful amazing family all came down here by the day and day after I got surgery because of the severity of it and what the Dr had told my mom about life or death and that I was touch and go there for a while. I'm home bound as of now. My family is taking turns coming down to stay with me so I am not alone. This is the most insane thing I've ever been through and I'm not even out of the woods yet, not even close..... Thank God for you doing this, I appreciate it beyond words. All this because of a doctor not paying attention properly and not doing his job correctly. And yes as I love what I do and don't want to stop, hair stylist have no sick time, no health insurance, no medical leave, and because I rent a booth I will still have to pay a weekly rent to keep my space secure. Which adds stress to everything else we are going thru.
I truly APPRECIATE all the thoughts, words, meals, flowers, and prayers from everyone. It's a blessing to have an amazing family, friends and clients.
