Biofield Definition and How it Relates to Reiki
Scientists are starting to study energy healing modalities, such as Reiki. As a registered nurse, trained in research (PhD) I can I say that Reiki can be and has been studied from a scientific perspective. It’s not just “woo woo stuff”. There is research-based literature that has looked at Reiki as real. The research begins with the concept of “biofield”. Biofields can be understood as “sets of interpenetrating and interacting fields of energy and information—some of them dense and electromagnetic in nature and some more subtle in nature. We are biolectromagnetic beings.” (Jain, 2021, p.18) For example, what does a heart monitor or electrocardiogram (ECG) measure? An ECG is a measurement of energy through the heart. What about EEG (Electroencephalography)? It is a measurement of the energy in the brain. Our bodies consist of fields of energy.
Biofield science “aims to provide a scientific foundation for understanding the complex homeodynamic regulation of living systems” (Rubik, et al, 2015, p. 1). Studying the biofield helps scientists better understand the phenomena known as “energy medicine”.
Reiki is considered a type of energy medicine. In fact, some hospitals provide Reiki as healing modalities. The Truman VA in Columbia, Missouri provides Reiki sessions to their veterans. In fact, LuAnn taught the current Reiki practitioners at the VA to provide Reiki services.

Why use Reiki to cleanse your home?

Outside sources of negative energy are many and varied, and they can be physical energy, mental or thought energy, emotional energy, or spiritual energy. Newspapers, TV, radio, and films often have sad, disturbing, or horrific images and words that can negatively impact our energy fields, so it is important to be discriminating about what you read, watch, or listen to. Far better to be uplifted by beautiful music or happy, fun programs than to be dragged down by horror films or the negative stuff which is usually presented as "news." Energy disturbances or blockages in other people's energy fields, such as negative thoughts and emotions or physical or mental illness can also impact us. Places can impact on our energies, especially if we spend time where negative energy can collect, such as shopping centers, city streets, offices and other workplaces, hospitals, and even our own home. It would be a rare home indeed that was untouched by conflict or argument or sorrow, and such mental and emotional energy can hang around for quite a long time. What is Reiki?
