On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, I closed one of the most meaningful chapters of my professional life.
After six years of service on the Maryland State Board of Massage Therapy Examiners, my term has come to an end. I served one year as a general Board member, one year as Secretary/Treasurer, two years as Vice Chair, and my final two years with the tremendous honor of serving as Chair.
When I joined the Board, I could not have fully understood the responsibility that came with the appointment—or how much this experience would ultimately mean to me.
I am deeply grateful to my fellow Board members, our incredible Board Director Sharon Oliver, Board staff, the Maryland Department of Health, legislators and their staffs, professional associations, educators, licensees, and members of the public who engaged with us.
Public service taught me that leadership is not always about being the loudest voice in the room. Sometimes it means listening, asking the difficult question, building consensus, or making the difficult decision.
To my colleagues, friends, and fellow massage therapists across Maryland: thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving our profession and the citizens of this state. It has truly been an honor.
