Celebrating Caribbean American Heritage Month!
As an African American woman, I spent years exploring my family history. What I discovered was that my roots extend beyond the shores of the United States into the Caribbean, particularly Barbados. Through that journey, I came to understand that I am both African American and Afro-Caribbean, a descendant of resilient people whose stories are woven throughout Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas.
As a proud Caribbean American woman, my ethnic heritage reflects the rich blending of African, Indigenous American, Iberian, Middle Eastern, and South Asian ancestries that have shaped my family story across generations.
My roots are deeply grounded in West and Central Africa through my Bajan ancestry, carrying the strength, resilience, faith, and cultural richness of the African Diaspora. I also proudly honor my Indigenous American ancestry, including connections to Native and Mayan heritage, as well as ancestral ties that reflect the diverse peoples who helped shape the Caribbean experience.
My heritage tells a story of migration, survival, adaptation, and triumph. It is a reminder that Caribbean identity is beautifully layered; formed by generations of people who preserved their traditions, overcame adversity, and passed down a legacy of wisdom and perseverance.
Today, I celebrate every part of that journey.
I celebrate the strength of my African ancestors, the wisdom of my Indigenous ancestors, the resilience of my Caribbean forebears, and the diverse ancestral influences that contribute to the tapestry of my family’s story.
I am proudly African American.
I am proudly Afro-Caribbean.
I am proudly a daughter of the African Diaspora.
And I carry the legacy of my ancestors with honor, gratitude, and pride.
🇧🇧🌴✨ Happy Caribbean American Heritage Month!

Today, we came out to support Senator Jon Ossoff, Keisha Lance Bottoms, and our pastor, Dr. Jamal Bryant. Though we were tired in our bodies, we knew we wanted to be present for this historic rally.
We arrived simply planning to be in the number and support from the crowd. However, a young man approached us and said, “We’d love for you all to be on stage. You’d have to stand for three hours, but we’d love to have you up there.” How could we turn down such a historic opportunity?
We were grateful just to stand on the stage, even if it was at the very end. Then, the stage manager came over and said, “We’d like for you all to stand in the middle, right behind our speakers.” Without hesitation, we stepped into position.
That moment reminded me of something important: You never know who is watching you. Sometimes your presence speaks louder than words. Even when you don’t open your mouth, your character, your consistency, your support, and your willingness to show up can open doors you never expected.
I want to encourage someone today: This may be the season where God has people usher you to the front, not because you demanded attention, but because your presence is needed. Be prepared to step up when the opportunity comes. Be willing to stand up for causes that matter. Be ready when purpose calls your name.
And most importantly, make sure you vote. Your voice matters. Your vote matters. Together, we have the power to help shape the trajectory of our nation, our state, and our communities.
Sometimes all you have to do is show up, and God will take care of the positioning.
Be B.O.L.D.
