What is our skin barrier? It protects the deeper layers of skin from allergens, pollution, pathogens, and other free radicals. It also helps to keep water in and chemicals out.

Skin Barrier Components
Corneocytes: Tough skin cells that form the "bricks" of the skin barrier
Ceramides: The most abundant lipid in the skin barrier
Cholesterol: A lipid that helps form the skin barrier
Fatty acids: Natural fats that fill in the gaps between corneocytes
Sebum and sweat: Form a thin, mildly acidic coating on the skin's surface

The fastest way to disrupt your barrier is by over-cleansing/exfoliating (through method or product choice) stripping it of what it needs to thrive. It all begins with the cleanse!

A healthy skin barrier is the foundation for everything you do. That’s why it’s so important to be able to recognize a compromised barrier when you see one.

You simply can’t get results from your treatment magic – or the products you’re giving your client for their homecare regimen – if you don’t restore that barrier first!

Glass skin is not real. In a photograph? Yes. The look is achieved through layering moisturizing products and face oils + exaggerated lighting.

Real human skin has pores (which we can treat to minimize through many modalities; AHAs, BHAs, retinols, chemical peels, dermaplaning and other treatments) and texture.

The best way to achieve your best skin is not by using a product that made your friend’s skin look great, but by seeing a professional esthetician you trust - being open about not only your concerns but your current products. My treatment room is always a safe space.

If you don’t feel your esthetician truly cares about you seeing the real improvement you want, they are not the one!
