This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week.
More than 1 in 5 U.S. adults lives with a mental illness, and about half get treatment in a given year.
If you've been putting off that first appointment, here's what a first visit with me looks like: a conversation about what's going on, how long it's been happening, what you've tried, your sleep, health history and medications, and what you want to change. Nothing gets decided that day without you.
Asking is the hard part. Psyched is accepting new adult patients in Columbus and by telehealth across Ohio.

Tuesday Tune-Up: if your sleep is off, start with your wake time.
Pick one and keep it seven days a week, weekends included. Your body clock anchors to when you get up, so a steady wake time makes it easier to feel sleepy at night. Light in the first hour after waking helps too. After a rough night, keep the wake time anyway. Sleeping in is how the cycle sustains itself.
This doesn't mean bedtime doesn't matter. It does, and most adults need seven or more hours. A wake time is simply the easier anchor to control: you can't force sleep, but you can choose when you get up.
If your schedule is irregular, like shifts or call, aim for a consistent anchor rather than perfection.
Evidence: strong that CBT-I is first-line for chronic insomnia. Its behavioral core works by anchoring your sleep schedule, including not sleeping in.
If poor sleep has lasted more than a few weeks, an evaluation can help sort out why. Columbus and telehealth across Ohio: psychedcbus.com

Many of the high performers I work with aren't falling apart. They're sharp, driven, and carrying a lot, and they notice it before anyone else does: focus slipping, sleep off, mood harder to steady.
I've worked in mental health for 25 years, and I'm a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. What I know is that "fine" and "optimal" are different things, and you're allowed to want the second one.
That's what Psyched is for. Precision psychiatric care in Columbus and by telehealth across Ohio. A thorough evaluation, medication management when it's the right tool, and a plan built around how you actually live.
Now accepting new patients. Insurance is accepted through our partner practice, Collaborative Psychiatry, and concierge options are available through Psyched.

Tomorrow, I switch over to Psyched, and next week it goes full-time. Today, I'm not saying goodbye β Au revoir.
For six years, I've worked alongside incredible coworkers and cared for patients at the Integrated Healthcare Organization, serving some of our city's most under-resourced patients. It shaped how I practice more than almost anything else has.
I'm not leaving that behind β I'm bringing it with me.
To my patients and coworkers of the last six years: thank you for trusting me, and for everything you taught me along the way. Until we meet again.

Two days until I'm officially full-time at Psyched.
A question I don't hear often enough: "I'm doing fine β why would I need a psychiatric prescriber?"
Precision psychiatric care isn't only for crisis. It's for people who are already succeeding and want to know if there's a clearer version of how their mind works: steadier focus, better sleep, less static between what you intend to do and what you actually do.
Most people wait until something breaks before they ask for help. You don't have to wait for that.

Five days until I'm officially full-time at Psyched.
A lot of you have asked, "If my family doctor already handles my meds, why would I see you?"
Great question. Your family doctor is a key part of your care, and I'll work alongside them. But seeing a psychiatric specialist can make a real difference if:
Your medication kind of works, but you still don't feel like yourself.
Side effects are bothering you.
You've tried more than one medication.
Anxiety, mood, focus, sleep, or eating concerns are all tangled together.
You want a provider who has time to really listen.
I take many insurances, and I also offer private concierge care. If you or someone you love has been waiting to feel better, now is a great time to reach out.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.
At Psyched, we see what it costs high-achievers to ask for help β the fear that it will look like weakness, that it will change how people see them, that it will affect a career or a role others depend on them for.
We want to say this plainly: needing support is not a failure of will.
If you or someone you love is in crisis, the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is available by call or text, 24/7.
Precision psychiatric care can also be part of an ongoing plan β not just crisis response, but care that catches warning signs long before a crisis arrives.
