Chapter 2: Making the Mane
Once the dust settled and the walls were up, it was time to turn a building into The Mane.
Stations went in. Shampoo were hooked up. Shelves were stocked. Furniture was found, moved, painted, repurposed and probably moved again. 😂
We didn’t have some big designer plan or perfectly coordinated salon catalog to order from. The Mane came together piece by piece—using what we had, what we thrifted and whatever made the place feel more like us.
Looking back, she was a lot simpler—almost minimalistic. 🫣 But you can already see little pieces of the Mane maximalist personality starting to show up.
And over the years, we learned something:
The Mane was never going to be finished.
It was going to grow right along with us. ✂️🩶

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001—the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who risked their lives to save others.
We remember the courage, sacrifice, and unity that followed.
May we never forget those we lost, those who served, and the reminder that we are stronger when we stand together.

12 YEARS OF MANE. 🖤✂️
Before the pink.
Before the wild decor.
Before the laughs, the transformations, the late nights, the big dreams, and the countless Mane Characters who walked through those doors…
There was THIS.
The very first photo we took of our building. 🥹
Just a building.
A whole lot of possibility.
And absolutely NO idea what was about to happen inside these walls.
12 years later, we can look back and say… holy shears, look what we built.🖤
And the best part? We’re just getting started.

Chapter 1: She was a fixer-upper.
Before there were shampoo bowls, styling stations, chandeliers and Mane characters filling the chairs, there was demolition. Walls came down. New walls went up. Plumbing had to be run for the shampoo bowls. And we learned very quickly that a styling station apparently needs enough outlets to power a small city. 😂
We weren’t starting with a beautiful salon and changing paint…we were building one.
Lookin back at these pictures now makes it hard to believe what this place would eventually become. 🥹
One dozen years later…she’s come a LONG way.
