DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF TO JUST ONE NAIL SYSTEM

One thing I always tell my students: learning Gel-X is great, but your education shouldn’t end there.

Every client who sits in your chair is different. Different natural nails, different lifestyles, different jobs, different habits and different expectations. That’s why one nail system will never work for everybody.

As nail technicians, we should understand acrylic, hard gel, builder gel, soft gel, Gel-X and, most importantly, proper structure and nail architecture.

Your job is not just to apply the product your client asks for. Your job is to look at their nails, ask questions and recommend what will work best for them.

When someone tells you, “Nothing ever stays on my nails,” don’t automatically blame the client or the product. Ask yourself: Are we using the right system? Is the length appropriate for their lifestyle? Is the structure correct? Are they following proper maintenance?

This is why I’m always pushing education in my classroom. I want my students to understand why they are doing something, not just memorize the steps.

I might be a little hard on you sometimes 😂, but there’s a reason. I want you to graduate knowing that you can handle more than one type of client and more than one type of nail service.

Learn as much as you can while you’re in school. Practice everything. Ask questions. Make mistakes and learn from them.

The more you know, the more you can offer your clients—and no one can take that education away from you.
